ifc vs. non affiliated orgs

by: Rushee

I’m an incoming freshman planning on rushing this year.
So far I am strongly considering Kappa Sig or Cowboys, but I’m wondering what the actual difference is between joining an IFC recognized fraternity vs. joining someone like Kappa Sig who is not IFC but nationally recognized.
What’s the difference for having events, school wise, etc.?

First of all you aren't strongly considering anyone, It is an invitation extended out to you. You can consider all you want. Joining a fraternity at Texas State is now a joke. If they aren't governed by IFC, you are basically just paying to party, if they are governed by IFC you are paying to party twice a year with a babysitter. Join whichever organization you feel more at home at. When they say it is paying for friends, really it is paying to make friends, which will make your freshman transition smoother and easier. With the new guidelines set in place for 12 hours, you may not need to join a fraternity by the time you are done with first semester if you have found your group of friends.
