and Sam Houston is probably one of the worst Greek schools in the state, you could probably put 10 more schools before ranking them.

No. The only schools that are worth mentioning in terms of a strong greek community are UT, TCU, Tech, and maybe SMU (weird greeks).Everyone else is an embarrassment

is number two after UT, but you're lower tier anyway.

The really traditionally southern Greek systems in Tx are:
UT
TCU
SMU

I'd throw Tech in too.

Tech is not a traditional &/or southern style system at all. It's west Texas. They have more in common with Arizona than the SEC. Having only lodges screws it up too.

TCU has potential but not being allowed to have houses really sets them back, a lot.

A real "traditional southern" greek system is somewhere between UT & SMU. Neither one is a good example on its own but they both have important elements that no one else in the state does.

Texas State has made a huge amount of progress in recent years, but it's still a long ways off.

West Texas isn't anything like Arizona, do you need a geography lesson?

West Texas is more southern than the libs in Austin or city guys in Fort Worth and Dallas. That's the spitting image of what other states think of Texas to be like. White wash wranglers and boots are common attire even with GDIs.

assure you the Greek system at UT is very Conservative, and is probably the closest to a traditional Southern system in Texas along with SMU. I agree on West Texas though, and Tech's Greek system is very Southern.

UT's recruitment is the only recruitment in Tx closest to real SEC recruitment.

SMU and TCU have strong greek life's but TCU gets more cliquey because they have fall rush and SMU has spring rush like Baylor.

Tech's greek life is big, but it's no where as life defining as it is at some other schools. SMU and TCU can't help it since they're small but at a school like UT in theory it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

TTU is western, less southern. You're ignorant if you think it's more southern than UT/A&M(hello, SEC?) or SMU's rush.

West Texas is nothing like Arizona or New Mexico, Tech is a very Conservative fratty campus, and their Greek system is far closer to traditional Southern than A&M's (being in the SEC one year doesn't suddenly make them a top notch Greek school) or Texas State's. Tech's system isn't quite as good as UT's, TCU's or SMU's, but their a good head above everyone else. I have a lot of friends at Tech and they also have one of the most completive rushes in the state (and their rush has way more in common with the "Southern" ones than A&M). Also if you think Tech is anything like Arizona, New Mexico or Colorado, then you might as well say East and Central Texas might as well be Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. They dress Southern and act Southern out there, so unless everyone out there suddenly starts running around in wife-beaters and Vans on a daily basis they have nothing in particular common with Western fraternities. Maybe you should go see for yourself so you can stop talking out your ass.

West Texas has plenty of oil kids, ranchers, farmers and various Southern rednecks who end up going to Tech. I'd say they personify the country Southern thing moreso than any other school in Texas coming from a UT student.

That doesn't change much. TTU greek life is no where near as consuming as UT's. SMU and TCU can't help their overly greek consumed society, but I'm a Texas girl at LSU and from my standpoint, TTU's greeklife isn't very southern. I know a few fraternity men who went there and they are far from the traditionally southern style fraternities

A lot of friends who are Tech Greeks and seeing their Greek life on several occasions I'm going to have to disagree. In my experience they've seemed pretty Southern. Maybe not quite as much as the other 3, and maybe with more in common with Oklahoma than the other big Texas Greek schools do, but way more of a hybrid of Southern and Oklahoma Greek life than anything to do with the West.

Oklahoma is no where near southern....of course TTU would be more southern than them

But whenever people think of the traditionally southern Greek systems, TTU isn't ever talked about. Of course Greek friends are going to have big experiences, as they should! It's greek life, hopefully they'd have fun and bond with their sisters or brothers.

But when it comes to categorizing southern recruitments, UT would be up there with 'bama( I would say yuck but i'm a tripe legacy) and UofArk

not an either/or. Nothing about Tech makes them "Western." They may not be as close to SEC Greek life as UT or SMU, but they're way closer than anything else in Texas except those and TCU.

Bama is a great Greek school, but Arkansas? I'd hardly put them as one of the top SEC Greek schools. Probably above Kentucky and A&M, but they don't exemplify Southern Greek life like Bama, Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee or LSU. Also, don't mean big experiences, I mean that the Greeks at Texh share far more in common with UT and UC Boulder or Arizona.
