pnm's need to know
by: txstFor any PNM's one thing you need to know is if the fraternity that is rushing you is actually on campus. No matter what line they feed you, your university experience will not be the same if the fraternity you pledge isn't an actively recognized fraternity on campus. Do your research, no matter what they were on campus, how great a fraternity they were, during your 4 year run they will be completely insignificant by your 2nd year. Choose wisely, have a great time, and pick the active house where you find the one that feels like a brotherhood. They are not going to tell you during rush that they are no longer recognized on campus unless you specifically ask, or they will tell you they are working on it. Don't believe it.

If you might pledge a fraternity that is not in the IFC, before you pledge that fraternity, contact the national office of that fraternity and ask if the national organization will initiate you into their fraternity from the chapter you are thinking about joining. If they will, get it in writing.

To be clear - we are talking about two types of fraternities. The first type is a fraternity that is not presently in IFC but is still chartered and recognized by its nationals. They may be serving a suspension by the university and, when the suspension expires, be readmitted back on campus by the university. At one time or another, many of the fraternities presently on campus have been in this situation.
The second type is a fraternity that is suspended by the university and has had its charter revoked by its national organization.
Stay away from the second type.

Best thing I've read on here lately. These were all great fraternities, and we are all going to miss them, but do not rush them, none of them will be back for awhile. As sad as it is and no matter what they tell you, it will not be a good situation for you. Don't waste your time, rush the active fraternities.
