how much does wealth factor into sorority bids?

The bid process isn't about wealth, but if you are seeking a bid, there are financial obligations to consider before you pledge any house. According to SMU Panhellenic, pledge costs run 1880-3700 the first semester. Once in, dues run 2600-4500 a year and then living in house will add 7000-17000 for the year on top of those dues, depending on which house you join. Room and board in the SMU dorms is just over 10,000, for comparison. Activities and clothing are extra. The houses do not have access to your financial statements but they will have access to your grades and those can affect the bid process.
