There should be a semi-annual audit on each House's finances by an outside third party. That is too much trust/money to place on 20-22 year olds....

Any sorority that charges over $2,000 per semester in dues should be audited. The results should be shown to each active member.

The average sorority has @200 members. If each pay $2,0000 per semester thats $400,000 in collected fees. Thats outrageous!

The reason the dues are so high is because the mortgage on the house is so expensive. Obviously y'all aren't in sororities or you'd know this.

Most of the major sororities have been in the same house for over 40 years. A few over 50 years. The Average mortgage is 30 years. Most of the sorority houses mortgages have been paid-off. A few may have placed a minor second mortgage for renovations, but most should not require this huge amount of dues each semester.

Sisters, lets bring up financial audits in our first Chapter Meeting in the Fall. Especially, when our monthly Fall dues are announced. Let’s watch out Chapter Officers twinge as they learn their weekly shopping trip to Northpark is in doubt…

if you were in a sorority, you'd know that dues are paid by the semester and have to be paid BEFORE the semester and that the dues have already been set.

Yes, I graduated in 2005. Most houses were paid in full. There was some flexibility in due payments.

However, I and others would strongly advise a semi-annual audit to protect the House's assets. It would only hurt/disclose corrupt sorority officers. Obviously, the comments above are from those who may be criminally disclosed by a thorough semi-audit. Please protect your assets, Sisters.

I can promise you that, at least in my chapter, exec members end up paying more than your average member because of various non-subsidized things like adviser gifts, travel/meals for conferences, prizes and printing for chapter, and other expenses that just don't fall into our budgets. Additionally, my chapter and I believe many others, provide break downs of our finances to our members, explaining where money is being allocated. An incredible amount of the money goes towards the house and house maintenance. Remember that houses have maids, at least one chef, a house mom and other staff responsible for landscaping and upkeep. Also, members often underestimate the costs of events like formals, date parties, brunches, and parents weekend activities. Event rentals and transportation are way more expensive than you might think.
