SMU Fall Recruitment

by:

There are rumblings that SMU will have fall recruitment from now on starting this coming fall. I doubt it'll affect rankings and such, but it could be a net positive for campus potentially.

I don't think it's a good move at all.

All it's going to do is give a higher priority to legacies and freshmen won't have a full semester to see which house is going to be a good fit for them. I went to my dad's frat's events a few times, but I realized halfway through the fall that it was going to be a terrible fit for me so I went somewhere else. If I did Fall rush, I would have joined that house and had a very negative experience with Greek Life.

From an organizational standpoint, lots of freshmen will make big mistakes with their new found freedom of being in college in their first semester. Spring rush allows houses to check this stuff early so they don't recruit people who will destroy their reputation.

I just see the potential for lots of liabilities and students being more likely to regret the houses they choose.

That is true, but considering the environment of SMU, most girls have a general idea of what house they want to get into even before they get to campus. I know that there will be info sessions for seniors going into the uni and local alumni panhel councils will host events so PNMs can get a feel for each sorority.

I also heard they might do this because of SMU's move to the ACC, as most of those campuses have fall recruitment.

SMU sororities will decide for themselves, all by themselves. Your boy-splaining is exactly what we're sick of. Your opinion doesn't matter and nobody asked.

Also, we don't give a rat's ass when other sororities in the ACC hold recruitment and they don't care about ours. It's an athletics conference for gods sake. No sorority member anywhere GAF.

Sororities are for women, the recruitment is our own, this is our school, and this is our decision. Try not to be such an ass toward sororities.

Full, transparent disclosures must be required for this Fall-Spring semester's recruitment. 😱

A written statement from the university must be read and presented in the early Fall semester Panhellenic Orientation Meeting to these PNM freshmen girls, giving the actual recruitment results from the past 5 years.

An actual percent of "legacy versus non-legacy" percentages for each participating sorority must be fully disclosed to them at that time. 😱

You do know that SMU has fraternities too right? I'm allowed to express my opinion. LMAO

What are the positives of having a fall rush vs a spring rush? Genuinely curious.

By: Class of 2025

Holding rush in the fall allows for a ready made friend group and a home away from home for lonely and homesick freshmen. It is more difficult for sororities to dirty rush in the fall if rush is held the week prior to classes beginning. The dust will be settled and people can concentrate on classes. There are also advantages for the sororities. Fall new members are paying one more semester of dues. Members don’t have to worry about preparing for spring semester rush in the fall or going on clandestine coffee dates with potential members. PNMs might not be as jaded from campus gossip and influenced by campus opinions if rush is held in the fall.

Not to mention gamedays in the fall are at a whole other level when you have a new member class.
