New Sorority at SMU

I am just curious when they will be allowed to start recruiting. If it is right after formal recruitment, you MIGHT see some girls left with AXO and DG as their choices drop out to try the new group.
But I don't see any of the girls who drop because they got cut from Kappa/Pi Phi (...and maybe Tri Delt too) looking to join a new group that does not have "status."

Whichever group is chosen…I have no doubt they will want time before they start recruiting on campus. This spring is way too soon…January recruitment is only a few months away! Probably next year (a whole year from now) as in January 2025.

Alpha Delta Pi ended up being selected. I actually think this is the best timing, with one of the PKT houses being out and Gamma Phi closing at the end of the year. You also have to remember that they take all years, while formal recruitment only takes freshmen and sophomores for the most part. So if the nationals works hard enough, this could become a competitive house and can help grow the greek community.

I definitely want to see our Greek system grow, but as a senior I have come to realize the "unique" culture we have (which could also be called "toxic").
As far as upperclassmen girls wanting to join a sorority after their sophomore year, just remember how many freshmen girls would transfer out at the end of semester if they got cut by PKT during recruitment.
Also, any girls who have any connection at all to the social scene at SMU probably witnessed the blatant disrespect by the SMU fraternity members towards the girls in Gamma Phi (and to a certain - and likely increasing - extent to AXO and DG). Who would want to subject themselves to that?

You are correct but this can change. Something HAS to change. We don't need to give frat boys any influence in sorority life, pnm's decisions, or our sisterhoods.
MOVE SORORITY RECRUITMENT TO THE FALL. It will not only eliminate the window for most of the toxicity, on the part of frats and sororities, but will also give every pnm a better rush and make sorority members' first semester experience better than it has ever been.
Also, imagine the shoe being on the other foot, when frats have their rush second semester and the sororities are in a position to influence/judge their rush and their rushees. Would love to see that for a change, just because.
If panhellenic really wants a culture change we are going to have to step up and make it happen. We have the right to determine our own sorority culture at our school. The sororities need to stick together to support each other and we will all be better for it.

Let’s be a real Greek System with an August recruitment. I’m all for it. We seriously need to make that happen.
