new sororities

There will not be any new sororities on the SMU campus the next two years. The Panhellanic office believes SMU is not "stable" enough for a new house. Whatever that means.

Right now we have some houses that stuggle - some that really struggle. If all our houses were doing well, we'd be more stable. But when we constantly put down one or more houses and make fun of them, we're never going to have a system where a new house could come along and make things better. Right now a new house would only hurt the strugglers.

Actually, Sigma Phi Lambda, or Phi Lamb, is officially a thing at SMU. It's the largest Christian sorority in the country, and it has a good-sized charter class of like 30 girls this semester. Interesting alternative to Panhel, has a lot of promise.

I'm sorry I don't think SMUs Greek system is struggling at all. Every house but one had a full pledge class and that's with over 300 girls dropping out of rush. With 300 girls dropping out it's time for a new house.

As long as there are messages (on here or tent talk or gossip) like "even XYZ is better than ABC," we will not be a stable community. If we could be supportive of all of our sororities we could maybe get a new house. We encourage girls to drop out because they get a bottom house though gossip and tent talk. If we had all "great" houses that wouldn't be such a factor.

How about y'all get the hell off of this site and stop monitoring what is posted on here? For a bunch of idiots who claim to dislike this site, y'all have a way of remaining on here despite the fact that you are NOT going to change the original intention of the site.

It's definitely true that this is a ranking site but that's only one reason people are on here. The other is for information. I think we could do our greek community a great service by being less judgmental about how embarrassing it is to be in a bottom half house. Because the truth is that it isn't. All the houses are friends and have fun together. A few insecure people want to tout their houses as being the top ones. Let them. It doesn't really matter to the people that actually go here.
