Best way to hopefully join BYC frat in the fall?

My son had something horrible happen to him less than a week before starting his freshman year that forced him to not socialize. He literally stayed inside and studied. (Good on the academic side, at least.)
That horrible situation resolved too late in the semester to join many Beta Upsilon Chi (the Christian frat) activities. He didn’t receive a bid today, but he’d very much like to join in the fall.
Any advice for getting to know the BYC guys without being “that guy always lurking around our activities”? ;)
