Am I at a disadvantage without a rush coach?

by: Rush coach at SMU?

Ok, I found out my roommate has one. Then I found out another friend has one. After asking around, I found out what feels like a ton of our incoming class is working with one. Am I at a serious disadvantage by not having one??

Can you recommend a particular one to help? I'm from OOS and my mom was Greek, but not at SMU. Really feeling confused about the process, especially now that I'm hearing there's stuff due BEFORE school even starts and before registration.

Please be constructive. I'm not socially inept. I'm very social and I've never had trouble meeting girls, but it feels like rush here is more than about "being friendly this fall", and I don't want to miss some hidden memo. I'm just looking for every advantage possible. Money isn't an issue; I just want to do this right the first time and get a house I'm really, really excited about. Pls help.

I'm not trying to me mean, but ya, probably you are.

1/3 of my pledge class got help last year. It's kind of an SMU secret that no one really talks about.

You don't "need" one, but in Texas, it's as common as getting an ACT tutor.

EXCELLENT ACCURATE POST
- worth repeating....

Sorority 1-3 PCs are packed with legacies. Over 90%.
Sorority 4-6 PCs are loaded with legacies. Over 85%.

The remaining 5-15% sorority 1-6 PC members are from Big Chapter contributors, Famous Families and Star Athletes. The remaining 3-5% are student leaders or proven academic scholars.

The Average Non-Legacy PNM will be corralled into sororities 7-8. Panhellenic and the university will use numerous pressure tactics. The WORST is the university tuition and housing full refund deadline BEFORE recruitment results are announced. Then the university 50% refund deadline kicks-in just days after the results are announced. Leaving the Newly Shocked GDI no time to pack and enroll in another university for the Spring semester. "Trapped" for an expensive $50 grand Spring semester. Just as Panhellenic and the university designed it.

Then...the COB illusion. Newly shocked GDIs are encouraged to participate in COB, where Sororities 7 & 8 are the ONLY remaining options available.

Only 360 PNMs accepting bids from sororities 1-6 will experience the legendary SMU Greek life experience. An additional 60 will accept bids from 7 & 8, leaving on average 300 newly shocked GDIs each Spring semester.

RELEASE the "Spring 2020 Legacy Disclosure Report" for the past 3 years by October 1st, 2020. Everyone is aware of Panhellenic's coverup attempts. You are NOT going to defraud the 2021 Spring PNMs with your PREDETERMINED LEGACY PC RECRUITMENT.

If this report is available in the Panhellenic Office, DISCLOSE the Spring 2020 results and for the past 3 years. SPILL the results on a GR Post. Most PNMs are too intimidated by Panhellenic to request this report. They are concerned they would be labeled as a trouble maker by Panhellenic.

What's really sad is that you're soooooo inaccurate. Sorry mom, you really need to invent another reason that your daughter didn't make it into the house you wanted her to have. I hope she's happy in a house, but I have to think she's probably sitting on her bed in a dorm, sad, without friends, because you've made it impossible for her to be with other girls like her.
Also, remember when you recited the panhellenic creed? How do you square that with your verbal diarrhea about houses 7 and 8? They're great houses filled with Christian girls who are your daughter's classmates.

Please stop, Karen. We've had enough.

Girl. Save your money. People who treat rush like it's applying to Harvard need to chill.

You'll literally meet the people rushing you this fall in classes and organizations. Get involved in SMU and you'll get close with actives and have real friendships with the girls who eventually become your sisters. That's how you end up in a house with people you really like and vibe with.

Start by following all the houses on insta, maybe follow some actives? See where you might fit in, but don't get in the mindset of needing to be in a specific house. The girls and the house that make you feel excited, accepted, and loved is where you'll be the happiest, not just where your friends or other pnms see themselves going.

I hope this helped! Seriously don't worry. The ppl on this site make rush sound way more dramatic than it is.

You don’t need one. A few of my friends in my friend group had rush coach’s and didn’t really help them as much as they though on rush. I didn’t have one and I had no trouble with rush and in the house I wanted from day one!

Oh you SMU folks really make me smile! Talk about perpetuating stereotypes: "I am a vacuous, not-very-bright snob, so I need to pay someone to coach me on conversations to have with vacuous, not-very-bright active-duty snobs." So typical of SMU.

Before anyone plays the "hypocrite card" on me, yes, there are girls at Austin who do that crap, but not very many, as most UT PNM's are SMART ENOUGH to hold a conversation during parties/rounds and figure out if they click with the girls at a house.
