its smu panhellenic !

by:

We are upset with SMU Panhellenic and the university.

Leading-on 750 freshmen girls to openings in the top 6 sororities. When there were actually less than 60 openings for non-legacies. Making our parents pay for 2 semesters, $100 grand to get the freshmen recruitment results. Entrapping almost 300 girls for the Spring semester, when a majority of us would NOT have returned to SMU if we received the results last semester.

We are facing harsh problems right now.
Emotional, financial, economic and academic....

Newly Shocked SMU GDIs spill:

Repost from last week:

This is why SMU rush is so completely rigged. Most Universities have rush in the fall as soon as classes are about to begin and the sororities go by your recs and rush week only. Sure, you might be a legacy, or there may be someone older from your high school there that knows you or your family, but to the majority of your sororities, you are a fresh face and that’s all they have to go by. There is no entire semester of being scrutinized or making friends or enemies. That’s why fall rush at another university and transferring again is so enticing. Who wants to be blacklisted their next 3 years at SMU and at SMU prices! NOT worth it SMU!

Already getting the paperwork in order for UT and elsewhere. Rush here is a political joke. How does SMU think any parent would be paying $75,000 a year for their legacy daughter to be cut and just stay at SMU?

Repost from 2019 GDIs:

“ Most of the newly GDIs were encouraged to proceed with COB to find a possible opening. Only sorority 7 & 8 were involved in COB this week. These were the sororities most were Not Interested In. Once realized of the GDI reality, it was Wednesday, far too late to transfer to another university or to ask your parents the short notice to make the dangerous wintery drive to Dallas.

It was pointed out that a vast majority of the top 6 sorority PCs were pre-determined. Only a few true openings were actually available to the non-connected. Fall Sophomore rush is very similar to COB. Only sorority 7 & 8 usually take pledges. Those Sophomores that go through recruitment a second time in the Spring are usually cut early and are given bids from sorority 7 & 8 again. Sorority 7 may cut you as a sophomore. “

“ Mid-January 2020 there will be over 275 shocked GDIs.
They paid almost $100 grand for their freshman year.
SMU is now the most expensive university in Texas.
30 credit hours earned, 21 hours are transferable...

Being a GDI social outcast in such a Greek Social Life dominated exorbitantly expensive university is hard to validate. Most GDIs transfer and sadly over half of them eventually drop OUT of college.

A successful recruitment? “
Really?

Worth repeating from 2019 GDIs:

Being a GDI social outcast in such a Greek Social Life dominated exorbitantly expensive university is hard to validate.

Oh, I wouldn’t be transferring back to SMU, honey. My parents aren’t paying $75,000 a year for GPB, or even AXO. And my grades are Quite excellent, and so is my legacy status.

SMU rush is just a mess.
I’m not even staying in Texas.

Good luck.

SMU Recruitment is designed by Panhellenic and the university as a "Bait & Switch" Entrapment for over 750 PNMs. Panhellenic painted us a picture during the Fall semester of the thriving social life of sororities 1-6. Saying how this lengthy, grueling 2 semester recruitment will be worth it by joining these elite privileged sororities.

In reality, sororities 1-6 are saturated in legacies. Less than 60 non-legacy girls were given bids to these sororities. The university made over 750 pnms wait until mid-January to get the recruitment results. This was after the 90% tuition & housing deadlines were in effect. Giving Newly Shocked GDIs just a few days until the 50% refund kicked-in. Essentially entrapping all of the Newly Shocked GDIs for the Spring semester.

Panhellenic as in years past, pushed COB to us knowing only sororities 7 & 8 were involved. This extra time pushed us past the 50% tuition & housing deadlines. We are trapped taking at least 6 hours of courses this semester that will not transfer to most other universities.

Yep, our sorority Recruitment Committee had the list of 50 legacies listed we had to honor with bids by Halloween. Leaving the Chapter with about 10 outstanding bids to tease 700 PNMs.

Pref & Bid Day should happen the (weekend before Thanksgiving). All of the sororities are prepared to complete our recruitment efforts by then. After 5 recruitments, it is obvious the university wants to wait until mid-January to release our recruitment results to capture all of these Newly Shocked GDIs for the Spring semester.

Its all about Spring Tuition & Housing "Fee capture" for the university. We know about 300 PNMs would not return to the university if they received our recruitment results by Thanksgiving. A lousy thing to do to these 300 girls each year.

As a newly shocked GDI, SMU has really changed this Spring semester. All of the sorority PCs have become harsh cliques. They eat together in the cafeteria, sit together in class, study together and go to pee together.

My roommate is in a PC, so most nights I am alone in my dorm room. We used to do things together, now she does not have the time. Between Chapter & PC meetings, mixers, parties and other PC activities, they are too busy to hang with GDIs.

We (GDIs) are a group of @300 who stay in dorms & watch TV streaming, the Bachelor & Shopping Network. Pretty depressing knowing our parents paid almost $50 grand for this semester. Most of us (GDIs) are now mostly concentrated on which university we will transfer to this Summer or Fall.

It makes me sad seeing all 300 of you eating separately in the cafeteria, not talking to anyone, just staring blankly into the distance like shell-shocked soldiers back from war. Here is an idea--maybe you can grab a few other newly shocked GDIs and go do something fun together instead of all sitting alone in your rooms watching TV. Or I don't know, maybe watch TV together. Or maybe go out. Go shopping or get some ice cream or go to a party or join a club.

The university & Panhellenic have not committed Newly Shocked GDIs any time or a budget for social activities during this semester. There are a few basketball games to attend and Program Council may have movies or an event or two. We are the forgotten.

We paid almost $50 grand for this semester and feel like the university is asking & waiting for us to leave. Clearly the university for the Spring semester relies on Greek Life almost exclusively for student's social life. GDIs time in the evening is spent deciding on which university to transfer next semester. We are concerned about "stranger danger" in such a big city, so most of us do not leave the campus at night.

We are all stunned the university risks loosing almost 300 freshmen girls each calendar year to GDI shock. Looking back, Panhellenic is to blame for not being "more forthcoming" about the limited true openings for the top 6 legacy-saturated sororities to 750 PNMs. The university is to blame for scheduling recruitment to entrap 300 girls for 2 exorbitantly expensive semesters. Then both dropping us with limited social events or activities for the captured Spring semester.

You are the most entitled person i've ever seen. A sorority is a club, and get this, you weren't cool enough to get in because all you do is spend time in your dorm watching TV and complain online. I know you've posted all over this site and as someone who has been on Rush committee, there has never been a post that you've made that made me think that you even deserved a bid anywhere in the first place. If you think your life is so depressing for not being in greek life, why didn't you join GPhi? You would have had to have gotten a bid from somewhere. You would have had a pledge class, a close group of friends, and have social events with fraternities. Oh but I bet you think you're too good for that because reasons. You don't deserve any financial compensation. You chose to come to SMU and you're not paying dues for the social budgets for a sorority. The sororities are not run by the school. None of the events the sororities and frats do are school related. You want to get social, but you worry about stranger danger? Give me a break! Ever go to like Barley, Milo's, or an OT Wednesday? There are tons of SMU students who go there every week, greek or not greek.

Look in a mirror, you are the problem. You didn't rush well. Move on. This is four years of your life and you are just a huge baby. You know what I look for in people who want to join my chapter? People who don't think they are the victim in everything, people who will actually want to be a part of the chapter and not just be in it for the parties, social people who don't spend all of their time in their room, and people who will not bring shame on the chapter. Boy do you not mark any of those checkmarks. Now you enjoy the life that you chose by staying in your dorm and complaining on GreekRank. You are making the choice not to be social as a GDI. It is not any sorority's fault. Grow up, the 299 other girls have.

We the 250 newly shocked GDIs would like to schedule a meeting at an SMU on-campus conference room to express our grievances with you and the university. First, please identify yourself so we address you formally. If not, stay-off GR with your entitled, EVIL, non-empathetic comments towards us.

Panhellenic & the university hope we the GDIs quietly transfer-out. However, these recent posts from these EVIL Witches are really firing us up. We the GDIs are now considering all of our options.

You should totally transfer to UT. I am sure you will have a great rush with your charming personality. Make sure to talk about shocked GDI ladies tho whole time.

Last year this person said that they had already met with the sororities at UT and they were prepared to help all the girls find homes. Giggle! Talk about delusional.

$100K for a year at SMU? Are your parents putting you up at the Ritz with round-the-clock servants or something? It sounds like you were dead set on one of the "Top Six" and were upset that none of them wanted you. Ironic, isn't it, that the places you wanted didn't want you and the places that MIGHT have given you a chance were "below" you. What did Groucho Marx say? He wouldn't want to join any club that would have him as a member? LOL By the way, you're not fooling anyone. You're obviously a PNM's mom. Instead of posting on Greek Rank, you should be hiring a recruitment consultant for your daughter so she doesn't have another crappy recruitment.

Of course it's the same person. Same bizarre complaints, same misinformation, same grammatical errors, same random capitalization and punctuation. I admit am fascinated by her. Is she a psychopath? Russian troll? Performance artist? Prankster?

All of you 300 bidless PNMs band together and create a local. You would automatically be the largest chapter on campus. Then you work on creating the most awesome local in existence and recruit only the best girls. Then petition to join a NPC that is not on campus. Rock the SMU NPC world.

Bidless by choice...or, or, hang with me here, all could have seen the process through and ranked their pref houses and received their GUARANTEED BIDS and all be together in Greek life! Some of you could even reach out to the houses that are under total and get COB's right now!
