confused pnm advice needed
by: Spring PNM
Is it true that if you get dropped from pretty much all the houses but gphi and your a spring freshman admit (and does not know anyone) the older girls that you are at a disadvantage? I know this is obvious but i’m trying to decide if I should rush again in the fall/spring as a sophomore. all the friends I made got into their top choice house, but we’re ALL here in the fall
to participate in the recruitment events the chapter hold to meet the girls! I don’t know if I should transfer or give it a shot next upcoming year. :(

This is one of those cases where it is NOT your fault. Spring admits that rush are at a HUGE disadvantage UNLESS you know a handful of girls beforehand. Even legacies get dropped. Not because you aren’t a GOOD fit but because why would said sorority give a bid to a girl who they do not know one bit or never heard of instead of a girls who they have actually met & attended all their recruitment fall events + friends + connections? It is understandable but this is good! make friends & keep a good reputation this semester and see fall or spring who’s rushing etc! You could always transfer if YOU wanted to but it’s highly unlikely you were blacklisted or anything. If said girls you made friends with during recruitment all going into the house you wanted.. that is a good sign... but be prepared it may be a bit lonely as I have had a similar experience and now & im in my top choice most of the “friends” you made during recruitment will not be true friends bc they will be so invested with their sorority + group. learn from this I know it hurts but you can still go to all the parties and etc this wasn’t your fault!

This is why SMU rush is so completely rigged. Most Universities have rush in the fall as soon as classes are about to begin and the sororities go by your recs and rush week only. Sure, you might be a legacy, or there may be someone older from your high school there that knows you or your family, but to the majority of your sororities, you are a fresh face and that’s all they have to go by. There is no entire semester of being scrutinized or making friends or enemies. That’s why fall rush at another university and transferring again is so enticing. Who wants to be blacklisted their next 3 years at SMU and at SMU prices! NOT worth it SMU!

It doesn’t matter the reason a spring entry pnm fell through the cracks, they fell through the cracks. Now, after having such hope for a great rush, they all feel like life at SMU is just living on the outside looking in. A real stinging welcome. Spring transfers got the shaft and SMU knows it. Sophomore transfer applications for most colleges by March 1, 2020 ladies. Start your applications now as most rush in the fall not a year from now in spring 2021 at SMU.

This is pretty accurate ^^^ I had great conversations with a spring girl and she was gorgeous & nice but 1-3 votes cant outweigh 15+ Most girls with deferred rush have a pretty good idea if where they will go just by having their friend group set up. Use this semester to grow and make connections, friendships, etc and try again whether you rush here or transfer you have many options (: So many of my friends rushed as sophomores!!!!! You might feel lonely and FOMO but don’t give into that!!!!
