spring transfer admit

by:

Okay so I will be a transfer this spring and i’m 100% rushing. I have heard smu has a stressful process. I am a legacy, my dad was in a frat so not sure if that counts but my grandmother/aunt/cousins are all from alpha chi omega, my other cousins is form kappa alpha theta, could I be considered a legacy from her as well? would it make a difference if she writes me a recommendation? does that guarantee me a bid? i’m super scared bc i’ve been reading things on this site and i’m nervous. also how do I even make it known i’m a legacy?

also will I be at a a disadvantage because I am a spring freshman? I heard that recruitment technically starts in the fall so obviously all the girls will have their eyes on pnms, but me being a transfer will I kind of get a free pass in a way? im super worried :/

First of all, there are no guarantees for a bid anywhere; PNM's are selected on best fit with a chapter. Legacy status helps and recs also help, but are not guarantees. Second, you are only a legacy for AXO because your grandmother grants you that legacy status; aunts and cousins don't count. Third, recs are super important and can help give you an edge over those who don't have them, but they need to be sent in NOW and you need a rec for every single house. Your family members can write your recs for their sororities but you need to find rec writers for the other houses too. Fourth, your rec writers for your legacy house will put your legacy status on that rec form, but no need to disclose to the other sororities your legacy status somewhere else; it won't help you and may even hurt you because they could assume you will go with your legacy house and discount you for that. And no one cares about your dad's fraternity. Last, yes you will be at a disadvantage for not being here in the fall. Not gonna lie. But that doesn't mean disaster. Bring your best and have confidence in yourself. All sororities here are full of wonderful girls; smart, sweet, pretty, and fun. You can't go wrong wherever you end up. Best of luck.

This is weird. There are only 8 NPC sororities at SMU. You sound uninformed and you have waited very late to get recs in. Your legacy connection just needs to be indicated on the rec by whomever is writing it. One rec per house is fine, 2 or more is great. But obtaining 3-4 per house is practically unachievable at this point and would be excessive anyway unless they would all be from SMU chapter alumnae, and if you were that well-connected you wouldn't be asking on here or have waited this late. You do understand that only a sorority member, either alumnae or active, can write a rec for that sorority, right? It takes time to round up these ladies and time for them to do the rec and get it in. BTW did you actually register for recruitment? If so you would have found a lot of this information on that site.

girl i just got admitted😂 i a am a spring transfer! i wasn’t taking about 3-4 per house im talking about 2-4 OVERALL I know I can’t probably get all 8 from each house, I can realistically only get mike 2-4 even with my family connections.

Axo takes anyone who is a legacy unless they have a reason to blacklist you. Strong legacy policy from them so you’ll be fine

three of my cousins are kappa alpha theta, do they accept this? what i mean is i really am only able to get my aunt, & cousins & maybe a few close friends older sisters to give me recs so like 3-5 tops I won’t be able to get a rec for every house, is that allowed? i really like kappa alpha theta in a sense that I think it could be a good fit for me but I know to keep an opened mind

Recs are not a requirement to be able to go through the process of recruitment. If you can't get recs for certain houses then you can't get recs, whatever. But having a rec can make the difference of being cut from a house or not when so many other pnm's do have their recs. If a house LOVES you and WANTS you they will not cut you for not having a rec. But, if a house decides to release a pnm then she is getting released - having multiple recs for that house won't save her.
