spring rush 2018 advice (sorority)

by:

I had a little trouble clicking with a lot of girls this semester as an incoming freshman. I met a lot of nice people, I just never formed a bond that seemed to last more than a couple times hanging out. I went on one “rush date” with an Alpha Chi and think it went pretty well... but other than that I just met sorority members out at parties, which I’m sure many of which didn’t remember and there was never follow up. Do I have a chance of getting a bid for a “top” or “middle” tier sorority. I don’t really care about sororities reputations- but just wondering if someone who doesn’t know any active members of that sorority has a chance at getting a bid?? Thanks for the help:-)

Honestly most likely not. To get in one of those houses you need a girl who really wants you already in the house.

You're not in the best spot, but houses do add a few girls to their lists as the week goes on. Be outgoing and memorable and you could slip in

I think you need to be able to know specifically why you didn't click with many girls last semester and what will be different during rush. If you were shy and awkward and still are shy and awkward..it's going to be tough. If something else was going on that you feel you have resolved / conquered, then things might go better.

I would not expect a top house if you're not a legacy, don't have anyone pulling for you in the house, and aren't an exceptional PNM (4.0, campus leadership, etc).

What about a middle house like Tri delt, chi o, or dg??

chi o/tri delt/dg all have pretty full lists, and if you had no rush dates with them it is harder. I would mentally prepare to be cut from 6-7 houses on day 1.

as said above, if it is a resolved thing you could be okay. no matter what, be confident, friendly, make sure you have practiced common questions and have good answers.

Why do you want a top or middle house? Maybe you would fit better in a lower house. It seems like you're saying that you're too good for those houses but really all the houses at SMU are good and you're lucky if you get any of them. I'm not being mean, but I do think you should adjust your attitude and open your mind to other possibilities.

Set your sites on a lower tier house. You will have a better chance of finding the real connection you have not found so far.

it’s really sad that you think girls in lower tiers have a better personality and would be easier to make friends with... why are they not top tier then?

lower tier sororities filled with girls who have nice personalities are not top tier because the SMU tier system is basically an oligarchy.
