What if you really want to go Greek but you can’t really afford it?? Are there scholarships for sororities and fraternities?

Some have small scholarships, but they won't be for every semester, and there are costs beyond the initial fee. Some people get a job to pay for it... if you really can't afford it, there is more to life and SMU than being greek.

If you really can't afford it, please do not go through rush. You could end up taking a spot from a guy or girl who can afford it and leave your chapter down a member when you eventually quit because you can't afford dues & events.

The scholarships available tend to be for short term financial emergencies - i.e., parent suddenly unemployed or disabled or another short term financial emergency. They aren't intended - or allowed- to subsidize a member's entire Greek experience for 4 years. The national offices fund some scholarships but they are to be used for academics (tuition, books, study abroad, etc) not for dues.

Remember your dues are only one part of the expense. There are parties and other events you have to pay to attend, plus shirts, big/lil gifts, etc.

Factoring out dues, how much do you think everything you mentioned costs?

you can find the average cost and fees for each chapter last year online, just look for it. Your First semester freshman spend a considerable amount more than what every other semester is like. The first can range from $1800 (g phi) to a little over $4000 (pi phi). They drop significantly after that.

It depends. Some dues are all inclusive and others aren't. So you really can't go by just comparing dues since they don't always cover the same things.
