how brutal is rush week

I am a sophomore transfer student at SMU looking to join a fraternity in the spring. Im new to the fraternity scene but have a lot of friends in different orgs at other schools. Unfortunately I don't know that many people here and wanted to know if going through rush week without knowing any of the active members would hurt my changes of getting a bid? I assume most new students are in the same boat as me but I'm sure knowing a couple guys in each fraternity would boost your chances of acceptance
