sorority rundown
by: supersenior
Nationals - Requires girls to go through National Panhellenic Recruitment where you are required to rush all four national sororities. National Panhellenic Recruitment only occurs in the Spring. Have a quota for pledge class sizes, typically 40, making the sororities extremely large and “generally” less close than locals. People will argue many girls only get bids due to quota. National community service hours are required, all have national philanthropies. More expensive than most locals due to national dues. Girls tend to join national sororities for perks such as expansive national alumni networks and name recognition. Do not haze as much due to national advisors keeping up with their chapters. Have “dry” (sober) rush in which the sorority can not bring out rushes to parties during Panhellenic Recruitment.
Locals - When rushing locals the rushes get to pick which sororities to rush. Rush occurs Fall and Spring. Have no quotas for pledge class sizes and all locals vary in size form very small to very large. Are considered to be closer because when getting a bid from local it is more rare due to no quota, showing that the girls truly want you. Philanthropy is generally less important, less hours due, no national philanthropy, most organizations have their own local charity organizations. Locals tend to be cheaper due to no national dues but this can vary. Most hazing occurs within locals due to less regulation and school involvement. Rush is different per sorority.

SMAC - Generally known as very nice. Is technically a service sorority. Recognizable on campus but have little party presence. Not super well liked among frats due to small size and even smaller size go girls that go out. Little to no hazing, their girls run track but fitness is also their like thing, none of their girls consider it hazing (and are proud of that) nor do the other locals consider it hazing. Known as very tight knit. Have big philanthropy presence. Small sorority (30-40). Have no house. Unofficially the sisters of MAC.
Thusa - Generally known as nice, kinda hipster, kinda nerdy. Very small tight knit organization. Not very present on campus. Not super well liked among frats or other sororities. No hazing at all. Close to no party scene (outside of Pi Kap). Very small (15-30), have been growing since recently added to panhellic rush despite never making national quota. Have a house but not used for parties at all. Have no brother frat but heavily associated with Pi Kap.
ADE - Mixed reputation on campus. Now identifies as a sibling hood taking anyone that has shared in the female gender experience. Generally nice but some have been known to be overly political. Very tight knit organization, do a lot of sisterhood retreats. Not super well liked among frats or other sororities. No hazing at all - a strong point they make during recruitment. Close to no party scene. Very small (15-30). Have a house but not used for parties at all. Have no brother frat.

DPhiE - Kinda quirky, definitely a bunch of different types of girls in Deeph, mixed attractiveness. Less stereotypical sorority, seems to be a bunch of girls that never aimed to join a sorority but also didn’t wanna go local. Girls seem to be very close within friend groups within sorority (most likely due to such large pledge class sizes). Less exclusive during rush. Very large organization but less present on campus than the other nationals. Not the greatest relationship with frats. Low amount of information, forced to learn information, some late nights. Relatively large party presence, harder presence than Kappa or AST. Have a sorority house on Court but is never used for parties (sometimes Date Party is held their but they have to rent a tent because the house is too small). Sisters of Crows, not the closest of Brother-Sister organizations.
AST - Known as the National Recruitment reject sorority. Newest national to campus and have found difficulty in finding their niche/vibe. Less stereotypical sorority generally but some of the girls are very into it. Generally nice, mixed/low attractiveness rating with some outliers. Girls are friends in their own groups, most girls are not close with each other, have been rumors of girls not recognizing their own sisters. Have slowly been developing their own presence and image. Not the greatest relationship with frats. Not exclusive during rush. Large organization, large campus presence. Do not haze at all, don’t require their girls to learn information, girls get to wear letters while “pledging.” Low party presence, doesn’t get the best social calendar, 50/50 split of girls that go out and this that do not. Have no house or brother frat.
