sdt or ago

All my friends are talking about either doing SDT or AGO but I don't know what the pros or cons of each are. I feel like they're similar but one is national and the other is local what is the difference with that too?

SDT - is a national sorority - this means the sisters must pay larger dues, though to my knowledge they are not absurd like at other schools with nationals. They have standards, but still do haze - it is mostly busy work however and time consuming things to make you closer to your sisters. SDT is one the largest sororities, so despite pledging you still might not become very close with your pledge sisters and it tends to become a bit cliquey. They have two houses, both are great. One is the IB located behind main street which is where they mostly hold parties, and the other is a house on wads which is beautiful and have breakfasts. This is great because as a junior or senior you can choose to live in one of those spots. They have a big presence on campus due to their large numbers, but are also involved in lots of charity as well as per the nature of nationals - some of their main fundraisers include their dodgeball tournament and raffles which they collaborate with other national sororities on. Their brother frat is Phi Kap, and the two spend a lot of time together. They also party with lots of sports teams as well - many of their sisters were actually athletes for the school at one point, or still are! SDT has in recent years become more "Long Island" and attracts girls with that vibe.

Ago - is a local sorority so they write and revise their own constitution, don't have a standards board or have to pay fees to nationals. Even though they don't have the same benefits of a national, they have a HUGE alumni base and actually give out scholarships of their own. They're the only sorority in Geneseo that has their letters on their house because they actually own it. They have an awesome house and really big yard which is good for breakfasts. They are local so they are smaller, as locals tend to be, however in recent years they have been taking larger pledge classes. This past year they were put on probation for hazing, even though their program is very similar to SDT - the school just really dislikes locals and will do anything to get them in trouble for whatever reason. Ago's brother frat is Sig Tau, the two of them drink A LOT and party with each other A LOT. Take that as you will. A lot of girls in Ago are from around Buffalo, probably because it is a lot to do with who you know in it.

A lot of people compare them, but they're pretty different. Go to events and see what you like better. And don't follow your friends!

SDT is a national so there are hundreds of thousands of more alumni and that opens you to many more networking opportunities. Their dues are pretty cheap for being a national and their houses are dope.
AGO is a local so they don't have a national headquarters they have to abide by. They're not actually that small, they're around 60 and SDT is around 90.
Both haze, but SDT hazes less. Mostly because they are a national. But both pledging processes are meant to make you closer to your sisters and share a bond.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket, they could be your top choice and you might not get a bid. Remember to keep an open mind during recruitment because odds are, you'll likely change your mind about who your top choice actually is.
