Don't count on it as a primary strategy. It only happens for a few. However, if you continue to the very end of recruitment and attend preference parties, then decide that you don't want to accept a bid from either of your final one or two, you could be eligible for a snap bid from another chapter that does not make quota. So, let's say that you loved a chapter during 8 party, but didn't get invited to prefs, they could change their mind about you and give you a bid if they don't make quota. They would look at the list of women that dropped out of the process and offer you a bid on the spot. This would usually happen immediately so that you don't miss out on the festivities. Again, don't drop out thinking it is going to happen because it is unusual and not from the most competitive groups.
