separate ifc from the university

by:

It is long past time that the Penn State IFC follow the model set by the University of Colorado. Simply put, it is time for IFC and member chapters to break off from any university recognition. There is no benefit to it. This ridiculous deferred rush is exactly what led Colorado to separate. Also, a perpetual ban for any chapter is way overboard. With that, you are no longer punishing the individuals responsible but hurting the alumni of the chapter.

A separate IFC can set its own rules, standards and judiciary procedures. Anything else is going to be continued negation with a university admin that is strategically trying to kill the Greek system over time.

Hell yes! We are a STATE university and there is are limits to the arrogance and power of some administration weasel. The Greeks did this at Texas, and they did it at Colorado. I can promise you the people who have to raise money for The Pennsylvania STATE University are not the same arrogant people who impose random, self-righteous decisions like this on the students who are the ones who will support the University financially!
We are a STATE University, and some administrator, full of himself and his arrogance, cannot tell you that you cannot speak to freshmen of recruit them to your registered student organization whenever you want to.

This is completely accurate. The Greeks at Harvard are not affiliated with the university. This can be done. However, there needs to be leadership. IFC needs to call a meeting outside of campus to discuss among member organizations. The Panhel chapters are in a different situation because they have university housing. So, it would be harder for them to follow a path that the fraternities clearly can. All chapters need to reach out to their advisors/nationals and discuss this possibility. The administration can not restrict the freedom of students to associate.

Arm yourselves with knowledge. Harvard tried to shut down the Greek system last year, which a private school can do, and the sororities exercised their power. Now - and this is laughable - Harvard has agreed to allow the sororities to stay but the fraternities have to go. Men are bad, you see.
PSU does not have the power to shut down the sororities. The IFC officers need to form a President's Council independent of any 'Greek life advisors" and simply refuse to submit, in a unified voice. The nationals will back them. The NIC has already come out against Harvard. Surely, the major investors and financial supports among male alumni of PSU were fraternity men here.
The way you defeat bullies is by punching them back.
