single-gender societies should go all-gender
by: seniorThis is not so much as a political statement as it is a practical one. The single-gender societies (especially all-female) on the Tap sheet seem to have an enormous burden of getting confirmations and recruiting people. It's a fact that they are well behind the standard 15/16 members relative to the other societies. I think societies should be all-gender because that seems to be more popular anyway.

It actually really is exceptional to this year that the all female societies are struggling so much. I know that in recent past years it was much easier to get people and there was a significant population of women who were only considering all-female societies. And beyond that, some of these all-female societies were founded the early 70s, when there were no societies that would accept women. They created a safe space for women to form communities that did in no way themselves by which men they associated with; which is a problem I have often seen with sororities (and yes, I am a member of a sorority). Why should all female societies give up a half century of important history and tradition just because one year of juniors seems to prefer co-ed to single gender?
