society letter

I got a Society letter several weeks ago asking that I respond to a specific email. I did and have not yet heard back. What's going on here?

Not sure if this is right or wrong, but I've heard rumors that the "big three" send out cards but do not interview. So, this might be an early indication of that? Or it could just be some lazy society that didn't contact all of its invitees

they send out letters after spring break so by "several weeks ago" clearly this wasn't a big three.
