big 3 societies
by: SillimanSallyDo the "Big 3" societies tap based on friendships and personal connections (like most societies), or by campus prominence? For example, i know that Skull and Bones reserves spots for certain campus leaders (team captains, etc.). Is this the case for the other two?

LMAO do you actually not know?
They are reserved spots entirely and every senior taps a single person for their space.
EXAMPLE: Wolf's Head ALWAYS has a member of the Women's Squash team. The current senior squash girl in Wolf's Head was tapped by a Women's Squash member. She will tap a female squash player in 2018. It works for all spots like that. Wolf's Head also has a Track Team spot as well as a YIRA spot.
But most societies don't work like this.

Editing to add:
Also, why would you want to be in a Big 3 society anyway?? They are so boring. Actually. Because they pick people based on campus positions and slots. I have anecdotal evidence that people tend to not be involved since each member is so different socially (i.e. super intellectual ppl in a society with binge-drinking athletes). It just doesnt work. Period.
That's why I'm hoping to do a YSI society with an application so i can be with people I ACTUALLY want to spend my entire senior year with.

I don't know all and for every society. Just Google the rumpus society issue from last year and you'll see the current seniors in the big 3. Combination of athletes. Yira types. Random SJW feminist gender queer type. YDN. Etc. Etc. Don't count for a big three because you're likely to get selected by the other 40 traditional socoeties just by knowing ppl.
