positivity thread
by: good luck pnms! For anyone else who's annoyed by the "New Rank" post that unnecessarily pits four amazing groups against each other, let's all post positive things about all four sororities. No backhanded compliments please.

As a sophomore, rushing last year felt like I a big deal and everyone was freaked out about it but looking back on it it doesn't really matter. I'm in the one I wanted to be in and I'm happy for all the new friends I've made but I'm still friends with the same people I was before rush. The only thing your sorority really defines are what crush and formal you go to and those are two nights a semester.
Freshmen - enjoy it, meet new people, but don't worry too much about it which one you end up in doesn't really matter much in the long run.

I've had a pretty different experience. I didn't think all about which sorority I wanted to be in before rush, but I felt like the one I ended up in worked really well for me. All of the crushes and formals are pretty much the same, so I'd recommend thinking about the kinds of people you want to hang out with for the next three(ish) years. I go to chapter once a week and hang out in our house a lot, plus we have mixers about twice a month that I always go to. I also got involved in our chapter's leadership and I go to most of the philanthropy events. Most of my closest friends are in my sorority, and it's been a huge boost to my confidence and general happiness at Yale.
If you want to join a sorority to get some cute pictures, that's fine. But for me, it's helped me meet some really amazing women on this campus that I wouldn't have met otherwise. It's not always perfect, but you'll get out of it what you put in.
I'd also say ignore the rankings--each chapter has over 100 women, and if you can't find at least a few new people you click with, maybe that's a personal problem.
Yale can sometimes be a really lonely place, whether you want to admit it or not, and this is a great opportunity to make some genuine friendships if you take it seriously.
