As sorority rush dwindles down and guys rush looms over freshmen boys heads I figured I'd drop some wisdom. Trying to get into a fraternity of lesser status with hopes that it will mature and find itself in a position of more respect and relevancy can only work to a certain extent. While over the last few years we have seen Beta evolve into a respected well run organization even they will only be able to get so far. Unfortunately at Elon tradition dictates that no matter how well a middle or lower tier fraternity does they will always be limited to rising to a rank just under the old guard "top tier" fraternities: KA, Kap Sig, Sig Chi, Lambda, Old Pi Kapp. The only way this gets disrupted is if these fraternities get kicked off, and even then as we've seen in recent years, an old guard fraternity that gets kicked off retains its prestige from underground. Choose wisely and manage your expectations.

It’s pretty crazy that every freshman guy is basically competing for a spot in one of those 5 fraternities. It’s hard to get a bid in the scheme of things

Old Guard? Dude, Sig Ep and even Sigma Pi have been around Elon longer than the likes of Sigma Chi, KA, Lamda and Pi Kapp. Underground Lamda and Pi Kapp will become move irrelevant each year moving forward.

Sig Ep was rechartered 10 years ago. They are one of the newer fraternities on campus and Sigma Pi is nothing

Sig Ep and Sigma Pi were two of the first fraternities on campus but both were kicked off because foolish behavior (hazing) and not relevant for a number of years. Sig Ep returned to campus in 2005 after being suspended and Sigma Pi is re-chartering this Spring after being booted off in 2015. Pi Kapp recently re-charted and I assume Lambda will return eventually as well. How will the cycle continue of Elon fraternities being kicked off?

I can assure you that spring Rush for IFC groups can be summed up in one word...disappointing. This falls in line with the general description of the frats here at Elon...underwhelming. Strats up/ Frats down
