how big is greek life at elon?
by: incoming freshmanDo you have to be in a sorority to have friends and be social? Will I feel left out if I don't join?

This really depends on you individually and the kind of people you’re friends with. If you’re really involved in a sport or other club/organization, you might not feel left out at all. I am not involved in a sorority and never really found an alternative organization where I could get really involved and make friends that I hung out with outside of the org. Half of my friends are in sororities and half aren’t, so there have definitely been some times where I felt very left out, especially around recruitment.
I would say you can definitely be happy without being in a sorority at Elon, but it’s not the easiest school to find a place if you’re not involved in Greek life. But I’ve also had friends join sororities and been very unhappy in them, so joining a sorority won’t automatically make you happy or give you friends. But I’d say if you’re coming to Elon you should definitely consider joining one.

for girls i’d say it’s easier in some aspects not to be in greek life. you can still go go whatever party you want. for guys, if you aren’t in a frat, the parties you’ll go to will most likely be smaller parties in oaks because frats don’t let gdis into their parties unless you know a ton of dudes. i would just get involved in something and try and meet as many people as possible and honestly rush. even if it isn’t for you, you won’t know til u try it!

Read & you figure it out; from Elon’s website:
“Fraternity & Sorority Life Councils
Fraternity and sorority life can provide you with an invaluable experience during your time at Elon University. With over 80 years of fraternity and sorority history, Greek Life is an Elon tradition. The fraternity and sorority community provides brotherhood and sisterhood for over 2,400 men and women every year. Approximately 42% of undergraduate students at Elon are members of the Greek community, which is comprised of 25 Greek organizations. Three student-run councils govern the fraternities and sororities. These include the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Panhellenic Association.
In addition to their individual functions, the councils work in collaboration to offer community events such as Greek Week and Trick-or-Treat on Greek Street.”
