how important are rec letters for sorority recruitment?

I'm an incoming freshman and have had several family friends offer to write me a rec letter for rush. Do they send a weird message if I'm not a legacy? Or does it not matter enough to bother? Thanks

It really does not matter at all. Even for top I don't think recs do anything for you. It's all about networking, looks, and having the right friends.
