They are nothing but a social club now. They can try to act like a fraternity but, now they are no good as the chess club.

I'm saying middle tier, but on the verge of bottom. They've been on probation for about 3 consecutive years, get in trouble constantly and overall have a reputation of doing dumb things. No house, and have shrunk a lot. They are trending down, not up.
