As an observant member of the Greek community I think these rankings/explanations are objective and mostly agreeable with most level-headed members of sororities and fraternities at USM.

Top Tier (no particular order)
-Pi Kapp: By far the biggest chapter, lots of diversity. If you are looking to be a leader on campus, this is the place you should go. They have a strong, but seemingly fragmented (at least from the outsiders perspective) brotherhood.

-Sig Ep: This is also a leadership-oriented fraternity. However, it seems that their nationals are very strict with rules, making them seem uptight. I think it is great that they accept minorities and do not haze. However, they do get criticism for not having a pledge process.

-Sigma Chi: The former "best of the best" fraternity. These guys are not involved on campus much anymore and have fallen in grades significantly. However, they have a great philanthropy that gets everyone involved and are still popular with sorority girls.

-SAE: This chapter seems to be improving and shedding their less-than-flattering image they had in the past. They seem to be in trouble pretty frequently though...

Middle Tier

-ATO: Literally all New Orleans guys. Fun to party with, but they don't offer much else. They do have a few face guys that try very hard to get their chapter back to where it used to be.

-PIKE: They have a bad reputation, but they do have fun parties. No campus leadership out of these guys. However, they do throw good parties

Lower-Middle Tier

-Sigma Nu: Some campus leaders, but overall a weird vibe. Generally nice, very accepting guys with a strong brotherhood.

-Delt: Lots of transfers. Literally my least favorite house to go to on the row...

Bottom Tier

-Phi Tau: These poor guys are struggling... But most of them seem really nice and I had a great time at their karaoke philanthropy!

-Kappa Sig: Just started recruiting again on campus. No true identity, but they do have a nice house.

Top Fraternities are easily Pi Kapp and SigEp.

Most fraternities are falling while these two have been consistently rising the past few years. Sigma Chi is one of my personal favorites, but unfortunately they have few leaders or involvement, missing the point of going Greek. Based on social, involvement, brotherhood and overall members, here's what I think to be the USM fraternity rankings:

1/2. SigEp (interchangable with Pi Kapp for first)

1/2. Pi Kap (interchangable with SigEp for first)

3. SAE

4. Sigma Chi

5. ATO

6. Pike

7. Sigma Nu

8. Delts

9. Phi Tau

10. Kappa Sig

When does rush start ?

By: ?
by: Alumni

Rush is considered to be open; therefore, the process is considered to be ongoing. If you are looking for the week of Bid Day for fraternities, that date can be found on usm.edu/greeklife. It will most likely be near the middle or end of September. It is usually two weeks after sorority rush.
