help!
by: AMKIs it hard to get into a sorority at southern miss? Is it super competitive like Ole Miss or is it somewhat easy to get a bid? I don't have the greatest GPA and I'm not a legacy so I'm a little nervous about rushing:( help!
#1 by: recruitment
Formal recruitment is over for this year, but some groups are still in the process of open bidding. Pretty sure Pi Phi is and I KNOW that ADPi is. If you are interested in either of those groups, I would suggest you email them and express interest.
During formal recruitment, grades matter. A lot. If you have above a 3.0, your GPA probably won't limit you. If you have 2.8-3.0 you will probably have limited options based on your GPA. IF you've got a 2.7 or below, your options will be SEVERELY LIMITED...of course, all that is granting that you are not a legacy or "Miss It-On-A-Stick" out of your high school.
Now, there are always exceptions to the rule. But, if you fall into a GPA rank which would limit your options, I would suggest that you do 2 things.
1. Rush as an upperclassman and that your freshman year to get your grades up. If you've got a good college GPA, your high school GPA is unlikely to matter.
2. Use your freshman year to get to know the sororities on campus. Meet them. Engage. Get a feel for where you could see yourself and then go into recruitment as a sophomore or junior with an open mind.
Also - be on the lookout for a new sorority to hit campus in 2014. Hasn't been announced as to which sorority has been selected yet...but if you want to be a part of something BIG and NEW - that might be just the thing you're looking for!
