by: kyeI'll be a freshman at UK next year and I know how big of a role Greek life plays. However I can't afford to rush the first year and I also want to focus on my grades. Do you think it'll be harder for me to make friends, or weird for me to rush sophomore year ?

Greek life is pretty big in UK from what I heard. Being in a greek organization has a lot of perks. You'll make great friends who'll help you throughout your college career and participate in make philanthropy events. It also looks good on resumes, especially if you were in higher positions such as chapter president or risk manager. But yeah I understand where you're coming from. I might transfer here and I'll be rushing second semester as a sophomore because I wanna get used to campus life and establish a high gpa so that I'll have more options in the spring since there are certain gpa requirements for each house. If you happen to change your mind about rushing, my best advice for you is to get a summer job so that you won't have too much trouble paying dues.
And as for making friends here, you won't have trouble with that as long as you put yourself out there. Many kids at state schools like UK are very social and outgoing so you'll be fine. But try to get involved on campus with club organizations if you can because that helps a lot with making friends here too.
