eku transfer

by:

I have a couple questions... I am a transfer student from EKU and plan on rushing for the first time this year at UK. Will it hurt my chances of being accepted into a sorority since I am a sophomore and a transfer student? My second question is, I am not a partier in the least and the biggest reasons I have for wanting to rush are sisterhood and philanthropic events. Will I be required to party? How much involvement could my boyfriend have in a sororities events if he is not greek?

Being a transfer student shouldn't matter. Rushing as a sophomore is a little harder because a chapter REALLY has to like you to give you a bid. But don't worry! Plenty of sophomores rush and initiate successfully. We have 5+ sophomores in my pledge class. You'll never be "required" to party, although I suggest you go out at least a couple times because its a great way to get to know your pledge class. Your boyfriend will be able to attend all date parties/functions but no philanthropy events, sisterhood events, initiation dinners, etc. Hope this helped!

FYI a greek boyfriend wouldn't be able to attend those things either. They aren't going to care if he's greek or not. Being a sophomore might reduce your chances slightly but not much. I know a lot of groups that would love a girl who isn't a "partier". You don't need to go to a party to get to know your pledge class...do other things with them instead.

This helps a lot! I had concerns about the party life and feeling left out if I didn't participate in that scene. I'm really looking forward to making friends and being part of a sisterhood, and was pleased to see that I won't have to participate in that.
