how important are recommendations?

I finally decided on rushing, not thinking that much preparation would be required, but read that a lot of people get cut without recommendations from alumni at UK. Since the website said they were not required, and I do not really know anyone who is Greek, do I still have a shot? My GPA and activities are very solid and I'm pretty good at talking to people.

I'm just wondering from people who are active Greeks how important recommendations really are. I want to start off the year positively and don't want to rush if I'm going to suffer massive cuts based on this. :/

I'm not entirely sure because I'm in a fraternity but you should still rush either way. Greek is definitely the way to go at UK

Trust me there are A LOT of girls that do not have rec letters. And even if they do that does not mean they are getting into that sorority. We are looking for girls with great personalitys and morals that fit the standard of our sorority. We want girls that want to be involved and are classy girls.
