by: PNMWhat are the best tips from you girls currently in a sorority have for all of us girls rushing? I hear the same things from everyone like to follow your heart and that's a great one but what are some real tips for going through recruitment and things that we should avoid doing that might leave a bad impression? The more answers the better! Thanks (:

Get off this website. Seriously. I regret reading this as a PNM so much because it made me go in with preconceived notions about certain chapters. There are no bad houses here. Keep a good attitude all week. You will at some point face harsh cuts. It happens to almost everyone. If it happens to you, put on a brave face, and go into the houses you have left like they are the only ones on campus. Every day look for hidden gems in all the houses you have. You need to keep an open mind because you never know which one will be your home. Also, don't wear heels until pref day (sisterhood day at the earliest). Your feet will thank you. When the houses offer you water, TAKE IT. It's hot and you want to stay hydrated. If the girls in the houses could drink the water, trust me they would.

Exactly what she said above! I went in reading this website & read negative things about the current chapter I'm in (there are untrue & negative things written about every single sorority). Reputation does not matter like it does in high school so go where you feel genuine. Also keep in mind when you have a conversation with a girl if you don't love her, still give the sorority a chance because there are sooo many other girls that you could click with! Honestly just be yourself and it really will work out okay!

Be yourself. It sounds corny, but if you try to act a certain way to get a sorority to like you, then it is not the sorority for you. A good tip is to imagine yourself coming to this house in sweats, no makeup, messy hair, after a bad breakup, while sick, failing an exam, or just generally at your lowest. If you feel that you could do that with the girls in a particular house that's how you know it's the one for you. You don't want to force yourself to be something you're not because then you will not have a good experience. It's not about who has the best house, the prettiest girls, or goes to gne wildest parties. It's who you fit with. If you get cut from a house you loved, don't dwell on it. Take whatever is on your schedule as an opportunity to fall in love with another chapter. Every chapter has good qualities and if you are open to that and ANY of the possibilities that rush week holds, you will end up where you are meant to be. Be kind to the girls in every house, they are sharing their sisterhood with you and inviting you into their home.

A lot of people will tell you to get off this website, but to be honest it helped me a lot. I ended up at two houses that weren't my first picks for pref day but I looked at this site and saw all the awesome things that were said about both of the houses and I was really comforted. I also checked instagrams of the girls because it gave me a better idea of what the sisterhood is really like... Do all the girls just post selfies or are they hanging out with their sisters and hiking and going to football games and being silly in the house. Honestly, there's pros and cons to both sides, but social media and this site actually comforted me a lot during recruitment. It's scary, not gonna lie, but you'll end up where you're supposed to be. Other advice, pay close attention to how the active members interact with each other when you're in the house... That will show you a lot about the sisterhood. Like do they all seem genuinely happy and are they lovingly poking at each other and having fun? Or do they all have a death glare and look like they hate their life? It'll show you a lot.

I agree with all these ladies. When I went through rush, I just took what this website said and had my own pre-concieved notions about all the chapters here and I regret it. I joined a chapter that I didn't like before I even came to UK and now I couldn't imagine being in a different one. I would look at their tumblr and Insta before looking at this and kinda get a feel for what each chapter is about. During rush week, make friends with the girls in your Gamma Chi group!! It'll make the week a lot more fun while you're waiting and walking to all the different houses. You never know, some of them could be your sisters as well. Good Luck and have fun!!!

The key is to take everything you read on here with a grain of salt. This website is not the end all be all. I would suggest looking at their social media/YouTube channels because that's more accurate than this site. But trust your gut. If you love a chapter based on your experience there, go with it regardless of what you read here.
