by: ActiveHi PNMs !! Im sure you’re both excited and anxious about recruitment. This year it’s going to look a lot different with KD, and Panhellenic establishing quota variable which means KD WILL get getting the largest pledge class. With this said be prepared for the first round of sisterhood because chances are your favorite house will most likely not be on your card and instead you’ll have KD. This isn’t meant to discourage you because you should be making the most of your experience no matter where you go! All of the girls are so excited to get to know you and who YOU are!

This quota situation puts all established sororities at a disadvantage because they are going to have to make such deep cuts. Also, if a girl goes KD, she will have an extremely difficult time ever living in the sorority house which is very disappointing. The sorority house experience is so much fun, convenient and a bonding experIence for the girls. I wish samford had not rolled out a new sorority like this.

Approximate number of PNM is 550. If Divided by 7 = 75-80 per house. Sorority houses sleep 70ish. BUT KD is slated to have a quota over 100 this year which will lessen quota for the established houses making getting into those sorority houses to live much easier than a house that has well over 100 in a pledge class.

So what would you have the university do? Without variable quota- which a Panhellenic concept - the new chapter would struggle for years to reach the chapter total set by the university. And yes, living in the house will be difficult but without a new sorority pledge classes would have been so large that living in the house would have been difficult for every chapter on campus. And a PNMs favorite house just might be KD!

No one is saying we don’t need more sororities. Just the way samford is adding in is not right. Makes more sense to divide PNMs by 7 so that all houses have roughly the same number and in three years all will be generally even and all girls roughly have the same chance to live in a sorority house.

With pledge classes of close to 100, the chance of living in the house diminishes for the established houses as well. And the original poster saying their favorite house will be replaced with KD - you assume just because they are new that KD will not have a strong presence and the PNMs will not like them - shame on you!
