what are the real sorority rankings here?
by: HaylieWhat are the real sorority rankings here? Top tier? Mid Tier? Bottom Tier?

There are 5 NPC sororities at Samford, thus it is a shame to rank them. Frankly, the statements about the sororities are merely opinions, and you know what they say about opinions: everyone has one.
Each chapter has it pros and cons. They all have pretty girls, fun girls, shy girls, smart girls, religious girls, politically active girls, cheerleaders, campus recruiters, rich girls, girls who have part time jobs.....you get the picture.
Go thru recruitment with an open mind. If you were smart enough to get into Samford, you are smart enough to not listen to anonymous gossip and to make up your own mind. Did you base your decision to enroll at Samford on internet hearsay? You most likely visited campus. Approach recruitment the same way. Listen to your heart, not tent talk and form your own opinion.

1. ADPi- sweet, classy girls, not big partiers, lots of girls looking for Mrs. Degrees, obsessed with Sigma Chi, well off
2. Zeta- typical state school sorority girls, social, daddy's girls, outgoing, well known, crazy party girls
3. Chi O- close- knit, hipster, laid back, "pretty sorority, artsy, doesn't do much with their philanthropy
4. AOPi- great tradition, growing sorority, sweet girls, diverse, lack of leaders in freshman and sophomore class
5. Phi Mu- girly, going downhill, lack of strong leadership, athletic, not well known freshman pledge class

Since these are very outdated rankings from 2012, I’ll provide an update. Tri Delta ( ΔΔΔ) has been on campus for 3 years now and although they are new, they are already thriving. ADPi and Chi O are the reigning top 2, neither with “party” reputations, save a few members in each that do. ADPi is known for cookie cutter perfect girls, which isn’t a bad thing because most of them are very nice, outgoing, and have broad ranges of talents. Chi O is about the same with more of a relaxed and effortless vibe where the girls care more about just having fun with each other and being themselves instead of trying to “fit in” with a reputation. Zeta comes in after those with a “party” reputation by Samford standards but still much more conservative in comparison to state school sororities and with a great sisterhood bond found between members of any sorority on campus. Phi Mu and Tri Delt are tied after that. Phi Mu is full of sweet girls who work hard in their studies and their philanthropy and are well-respected on campus., but they lack strong leadership this year which could definitely change in the upcoming years. Tri Delt doesn’t really have a “reputation” on campus because they are so new, but that is only an advantage because any girl fits in and they all work really hard to make it a great sisterhood with a plus of a brand-new house. They will most likely continue to improve with time because of good leadership. AOPi unfortunately comes last because it is extremely hard to get rid of the “weird girl” reputation. With that being said, they do try their best to improve themselves once members get their bid and plenty of well-liked girls on campus are in this sorority. Each girl in it has spoken about being able to make the best of it and loving their experience in AOPi anyways. All in all, Greek life at Samford is very strong and close knit between sororities and there are not any rivalries because girls make friends with others who end up in different sororities before rush begins freshman year. Any sorority is a good sorority to be in because they all have wonderful girls with close bonds that aren’t closed off from others not wearing the same letters.

If Phi Mu is "going down hill", then why did they win almost all of the Greek Life Awards this year: Greek Women of the Year, Greek Life Scholarship Award, 3rd year in a row Greek Life Philanthropy Award and were the Greek Life IM Champion (2013) all went to Phi Mu. Miss Samford 2012 (she crowned MIss Samford 2013 who is a really sweet Zeta) not to mention Miss AL is a Phi Mu. Really inaccurate statement. My roommate was a Phi Mu last year. I am thinking about going through recruitment this year. I would love to be a Phi Mu. I really think all the houses are good...all nice SU type nice girls for the most part.
