is it too late for a soph to rush a sorority? is it awk and how will I fit in with a year younger pledge class? :(

Absolutely not! I rushed last spring as a freshman, and there were a surprising amount of sophomores. Plus, most of my pledge class rushed as sophomores. I suggest you rush for informal/fall recruitment, though, because you won't have to compete against all the freshmen. Spring recruitment is definitely going to be more competitive than fall.
