PNMs, ignore rankings, they're dumb and full of bs

A brief description of each of the chapters saying NOTHING negative about anyone.

Alpha Chi Omega- Nice girls, close friendships, rage hard, very laid back (least girly)

Chi Omega- Hot girls, popular with top-tier frats.

Delta Delta Delta- Party very hard, mix with some top frats

Delta Gamma- Many cute girls, girly, some party

Gamma Phi Beta- Very close friendships, very girly

Kappa Alpha Theta- High GPA, good looking

Kappa Delta- High GPA, popular philanthropy

Kappa Kappa Gamma- Considered to be the best looking, very popular during recruitment

Phi Mu- Very close friendship, smaller so you get to know everyone

Pi Beta Phi- Most laid back of the "top tier", party hard

most houses don't have girls with a bias towards sophomores, it's just the system that's used. lots of houses cut by gpa, which is why freshman and sophomore/junior transfer students have an easier time getting asked back. you can definitely make it into a "top tier" house as a sophomore without having connections, it's just a lot harder if you don't have a gpa as high as you did when you came here (and practically no one does).

i don't care what other people tell you, it is DEFINITELY harder to rush as a sophomore. if there is even one sister who knows anything bad about you, you can get cut - so if you've thrown up outside the units in front of some kappas or thetas, don't be surprised when you get cut from them right away. also, unless you are already friends with upwards of five sisters, it will be really difficult to get into 'top tiers' so just knowing one girl/having your roommate in chi o will not get you a bid there. sisters will also judge sophomores on what you got involved in freshman year
finally, i cannot stress enough that if you are re-rushing after dropping out freshman year it is almost guaranteed that you will NOT get into a top house. so many girls go through rush again thinking they can make up for last year's mistakes, but then are crushed when they get cut across the board from kappa, theta, pi phi, and chi o

Is it true that rushing again hurts you? I did the first weekend as a freshman but dropped out for a variety of reasons, but am now really wanting to join a sorority. Also will they definitely know that you rushed before?

Rushing again DEFINITELY hurts you.
Chapters that cut you last year will cut you again, but the chapters that wanted you might still want you.

As much as it "hurts" there are only 4 "top" sororities and there are 6 "middle/bottom" ones. Being in a top sorotity is NOT the be all end all of rush. The girls in Phi Mu have more love for their sorority than any other greek girl I know. And nobody sees sororities like KD or AXO as any "less" than any other sorority.

re: involvements
being too involved isn't always a good thing. lots of places think that it means you won't be involved enough in the sorority.

also, the tiers thing is kind of bull. might come as a surprise, but most of the time when a "top" and "middle tier" organization mix that typically don't, it's not just the top one that doesn't show up; neither does the one that isn't as "good". it's not about whos better, it's about what you value and want out of your greek experience.

If you dropped out of rush but want to be in a sorority, definitely try again. You probably won't get into houses that cut you last time around (so if, for example, you really wanted to be in kappa but they cut you second round last year, they'll probably cut you again). But houses that wanted you last time (lets say you would have made a great DG or GPhi, and they wanted you) will probably keep inviting you back.

Remember, if you rush and play by the rules you WILL get a bid. You may not get into your first choice, but everyone I know in a middle/lower tier house absolutely loves it. The only girls I know who are genuinely unhappy are some of my chi O friends who got crapy grades last semester because they had no time to do work because they were out every night. And not even all of them, just a handful

I know a couple sophomores who only rushed as freshman because lots of girls they knew were doing it and weren't really invested in the rush process so dropped it, but now want to join as sophomores. Is that a problem?

Umm... it might be. Are they sophomores now? Because then they missed spring recruitment (pretty sure only Phi Mu, Gamma Phi, and AXO were doing it anyway). As a junior, you CAN get a bid, absolutely... but you may have the GPA issue, plus you wouldn't count for quota as a junior, and sororities are primarily focused on making quota, so they may be less invested in you. However, Phi Mu will always take you and it seems like AXO is pretty accepting of juniors, so if you want to be in a sorority, you should be able to be in one.

Sorry I meant I know a couple of freshman who had rushed but weren't invested it and want to rush as sophomores.
