I experienced wm both as a non-greek and within panhel. As a transfer from a larger southern uni, I can tell you the greek life here is more authentic in creating lasting friendships.

I just joined greek life last semester. Most parties I've been to have been alright. Nothing too memorable. My main problem with greek life is the little to no diversity. Girls have been dropping my sorority left and right because of it. Greek life needs to be more inclusive and then things will start to improve.

W&M's Greek Life is good for what it does. Going to a medium size public university, it concentrates many of the outgoing, social and involved students in one community. There's a huge range of social scenes between the different frats and srats, so it shouldn't be too competitive to get into if you rush/pref the places where you'll fit in (and be happiest). Overall, the community is really positive and parties are fun because of all of the close friends you make. Although some weekends are sleepy, big weekends like Homecoming, Halloween and assorted day drinks make up for the lackluster nights and give you something to look forward to.

Really easy to get into greek life, especially sororities. Joining a frat (or knowing a lot of brothers) is a must if you want to party on the weekend because Williamsburg is dead and most parties are closed to just brothers and girls. Parties are okay for the most part. There's always a handful of things on Friday and Saturday. However, nearly everything dies around 1/1:30 if not earlier. A lot of people are kind of socially awkward, but it's William and Mary so it's to be expected. Frats/srats and athletes tend to have the more normal people. Really, really average greek life. But hey, most people aren't going to William and Mary for the greek life.

School seriously boring. Since Williamsburg is more a colonial themed amusement park than actual town it relies on tourism. Therefore the greek life is harshly persecuted by the cops in fear that they will drive away tourism dollars. Even if this wasn't the case the library is the focal point of interest for this school. There are plenty of academically equivalent (or honestly better) colleges that have much healthier social scenes. Their parties are weird gatherings in dorm rooms and has a feel like a college of high schoolers. People are nice but certainly not as social as people and similar universities. The dominant feel of William and Mary is of a pressure cooker of stressed out kids afraid to let loose.

to have a social life you have to be in greek life. Parties are usually suck unless its kap sig, pika, beta, or sig chi, which you will usually have fun. Dont even bother showing up to the rest of the frats because the parties are pretty much a pre game. The only 5 sororities worth joining are kappa, theta, tri delt, pi phi, and chi o. As a person not in greek life, this is an unbiased opinion and fact. If you are thinking about coming to this school, keep in mind that these 4 frats and 5 sororities are the only ones worth rushing.

Overall this school does decent for its size. In terms of frats the parties are nothing crazy but if you join kap sig or sig chi you will have a good time. The srats are also great can't go wrong with the big three (theta, kappa, and Chi O)
