They probably freaked out because it is a liability issue. These events are registered and if someone gets hurt or ends up in the hospital they can get in trouble. Obviously since you are not in a sorority you don't know what went down this year in greek life, but good for them for freaking out about it as they should. From a Kappa.

i don't mind the older girls, but their freshmen are awful. they try sooooo hard to look cool: "omgggg our mixers are sooooo fun. i mean, sig chi loooooves us." ew. and those bikini shoots in the snow? wtf. please cool it on the makeup and on the alcohol, which you're pretending you can handle but obviously can't because so many of you have been hospitalized! clearly this pledge class only got chosen for their looks, but they're making kappa unklassy.
