fall 2019 ifc fraternity ranking
by: GreekGraduate
A lot of reviews are going to be bias as to who is the “top” house in Greek life at any university. The Greek community at Western is about 1,000 students (1 in 20 undergraduates), which is a high percentage of our population. The bias usually comes out of love for their community/house but it can be frustrating during recruitment. Overall, fraternal life at Western is good and members are involved in campus/greek life. Here is a ranking - as unbiased as possible - for the fraternities this fall. This considers their academics, involvement, party reputation, brotherhood and overall membership character. BUT, you should meet ALL the houses because you may find the right fit for you does not coincide with this. ALSO, house rankings change all the time even within one semester. Houses can lose their charter, be put on probation, be evaluated by their nationals, lose membership or be investigated (all have happened with different chapters within one year of Greek Life at Western). Just writing to help.
Read if you're trying to get an idea of the fraternities before you visit but take with a grain of salt. Not everyone shares view/things ALWAYS change.
1. Phi Sigma Kappa (Phi Sig): One of the oldest charters at Western with quality brotherhood loyalty. Some past criticism, but gains membership with high numbers, greek/campus involvement and enhanced relations with all chapters (inclusive). good location, good party room.
2. Pi Kappa Phi (Pi Kapp): Close with Phi Sig, well known for brotherly success and loyalty. Known for business, good house and good party room (similar to Phi Sig)
3. Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI): Extremely successful philanthropy. Good brotherly relations and known for intelligence and campus involvement. Smaller pledge numbers and house off of Fraternity Village but overall good house.
4. Sig Tau Gamma (Sig Tau): Recently gained housing on Fraternity Village Drive. Had highest pledge numbers last year and became more involved socially and philanthropy despite lacking strong housing conditions.
5. Alpha Tau Omega (ATO): Known for partying and darties, house on fraternity village. strong membership and numbers but style of fraternal life and connection isn't for everyone.
6. Alpha Sigma Phi (Alpha Sig): Gaining numbers and increasing social/campus involvement in recent years. House is on fraternity village but does not have a huge party room. strong brotherhood loyalty.
7. Sigma Chi: strong recruitment and national presence, good for connections. house needs work but is on fraternity village drive. known for partying and lack of involvement/respect with other greek life.
8. Lambda Chi Alpha: very involved and respectful but lack certain involvements. known for GDI parties and kindness
9. Pi Kappa Alpha: strong brotherhood but house is far from fraternity village and girls have sometimes had issues with their brothers being inappropriate. known for good grades and consistency in numbers.
10. Theta Chi: house needs work but great party room, problem is numbers have declined and they don't have the initiative to gain membership. would be stronger and has potential with more efforts.
?. Delta Sigma Phi: This chapter was previously at Western but lost their charter. They regained their charter as Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep) was removed from campus. Their chapter will likely be organized differently now (previously held Theta Chi's current house and were known for uncontrolled partying).
(RECENTLY GONE: SIG EP)

Their nationals revoked their charter because they never remained a dry house and had issues with them
