chapter opinions
by: wustlCan someone give an honest description and reputation of the sororities on campus including pros and cons?

AEPhi - PCs tend to swing between awkward girls, JAPs, crazy partiers, and (more recently) girls who rushed for reputation but didn't make top tier.
AOPi - Long-standing rep as the "nice" chapter, but these days (for better or for worse) more of a mix of girls who don't get bids elsewhere for a wide variety of reasons.
APhi - Girls with interesting personalities, but who are in it for reputation. Frats like them, other sororities consider them fake and social climby.
ChiO - There are always some girls who fit the old "eclectic" stereotype, but more and more who want middle tier but either don't want the more set reps of AEPhi/DG or can't get bids there. Bad campus presence, good sisterhood.
DG - Sweethearts and overachievers, and fairly outgoing with a decent number of party girls these days. Seem to be struggling with PR/social media though, so the old rep unfortunately sticks in a lot of people's minds.
Kappa - Pretty, outgoing girls, with personalities ranging from super-sweet to psychotically mean. Weirdly, has been cross-preffing more with DG and less with Pi Phi every year, but they still consider Pi Phi their rival.
KD - Becoming increasingly well-liked with a reputation for philanthropy and very involved girls, but sisterhood is lacking. It doesn't help that most girls end up there as a second choice.
Pi Phi - PCs range from smart and outgoing to rude and status-hungry, but generally strong personalities. This year's girls are strangely low on the radar.

from a senior who has friends in almost every sorority - it's hard to condense a chapter down to a few lines because every PNM values something different. but maybe this will be a helpful perspective. DON'T join...
AEPhi if you prioritize a serious, "real" sorority experience. their nationals is the most lax, so a lot of traditional things (formal chapter, new mem ed, serious elections) get subbed out for whatever the girls want to do instead.
AOII if you prioritize status, obviously. otherwise, whether this ends up being your first choice or your last, it's a chapter that has a lot to offer.
APhi if you prioritize genuineness, at least as an organization. some of the best (and, unfortunately, worst) girls i know are in it, but at the end of the day the chapter puts their rep before anything else.
ChiO if you prioritize being part of something big on campus. in the last few years, their presence has shrunk down to almost zero, which is perfect for girls who like being under the Greek radar.
DG if you prioritize looks and party-girl status. they very publicly refuse to recruit by appearance or reputation, and while most of them are super social, it's not something they care about advertising as an organization.

aephi's pc probably won't do much to change their rep or standing, they're pretty stuck in the middle and haven't been moving in any specific direction. aopi's pc will basically be their last chance at getting even with/ahead of kd (or even chio); hopefully the fact that gphi's coming will mean they can be pickier with their girls. aphi's pc will depend hugely on whether they can hang onto the old "nice cool girls" stereotype their new rep as social climbers comes through. chio's pc, like usual, will depend on how well/poorly dg, aephi, and nowadays even kd do. dg's pc will be proof of whether they can get their pr together this fall without turning desperate like old aphi. kd's pc will need to have some cool/super-involved girls now that the colony classes are gone, or risk just becoming another aopi. kkg's pc will depend on if they can out-pref dg for the nice girls/pi phi for the party girls or revert back to the pretty and mean stereotype. and pi phi's pc, after last year's disastrous one, will either keep it in top tier or signal a major slip.
