rush 2016
by: 2019If you want to have a better chance of getting your first choice sorority in the spring, what should you do in the fall? Obviously get good grades and don't do anything stupid, but all of my other friends are rushing right now when they get to school so they didn't have this weird semester of knowing sorority girls before becoming one. Does anyone have any advice?

my number one tip: DON'T have a first pick. you will obviously form impressions in the fall (just as girls in chapters will form impressions of you), but they will not all be accurate or ultimately important. just be yourself, and try to reserve your decisions for AFTER rush starts. i can't begin to tell you how many sorority girls could not have even imagined being in the chapters they now love during their first semester, and how many more almost missed (or did miss) out on amazing opportunities because they were preoccupied by the chapters they thought they wanted

I don't have a favorite because I just got here (but I've met girls in three sororities because of the people leading my pre-o and my wusa). But one of my best friends just rushed at a state school in the south and even though there were something around 15 or 16 sororities she only had 4 left by the third round. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do that won't put me in that position when I rush so that when I eventually figure out what sorority I like, there's a greater chance of them liking me back. Are there just things in general sororities here look for?

meeting and getting to know sorority women definitely helps. they can vouch for you during recruitment. but it's a slippery slope. if you constantly talk to them about greek life, they figure out what your doing. keep your convos and interactions with them natural and chill.
also, don't force a relationship with a woman just because she's in a top sorority and you think you have to be in that chapter. if you guys don't click, you don't click. don't try to be her bff just for the status. status climbers get a lot of hate around here.
