dg

by:

DG is definitely the most active chapter on this entire website and anytime someone points it out its DG coming to the rescue saying they don't care about rankings. Actually they care the most about the way they appear to the outside world, thats why theyre in DG. Yes they are nice girls but they are also probably the most traditional in terms of caring about classiness, sisterhood, and appearances which is how most sororities at southern state schools actually act. They basically are the epitome of the homemaker stereotype sorority girl without the looks. I have friends in these other "top tier" sororities and yes even alpha phi. They're so focused on themselves they couldn't care less what people on greek rank have to say. They already think they're the best.

this doesn't make any sense. everyone cares about reputations and rankings to some extent, just in different ways. i think what people are trying to say is that dg doesn't care more about tiers than they do about other things (don't know if it's true but that's definitely what commenters on here mean). you can't say the same about aphi, etc. besides most posts on here that mention dg are either pointing out legitimate good things or (more often) saying that another chapter like aephi or pi phi or chio is equal/better. you're just trying to stir up drama where there isn't any.

Looks like OP didn't get a bid... You've been commenting all over the place trying to make DG look bad. This post doesn't even make sense...

agreed. i don't love DG (personally not into the whole classy/sweetheart thing) but since when is wanting class and a good sisterhood the same thing as caring about appearances or rankings? OP needs to chill out, if you're really confident and secure about your chapter then stop wasting time trying to make others look bad.

If this was bumped to answer my question about why DG is a joke, I still don't get it. I want a sisterhood and having class sounds like a good thing, And I want to pretend appearances don't matter but I know they so in almost every sorority. So why are people calling them out on it like it's bad? I've met a few DGs through classes and I've really liked them so far and they seem to get a lot of hate on here but I don't understand...

Trust your instincts and own judgement over random posters. This goes for anyone and ANY greek organization

This is exactly how DG has always come across to me as well. I'm always confused by some of the other stereotypes you hear. DG tries really hard to pretend not to care about rep but it's so obvious that they do and I'm pretty sure sweetheart is a euphemism for boring

this just rings so true

i don't think you've ever actually met any dgs... they're legitimately so nice and opposed to rushing like kappa/aphi/piphi that it's almost painful. doesn't mean they don't care about reps because, let's be honest, we all do, it just doesn't seem like the most important thing to them like it does for some chapters

If by "boring" you mean they don't get as wild or care as much about going out as some other chapters, then that's valid. But in terms of who they are/what they do as a chapter I think DG is one of the least "boring" sororities - as far as I know they rush for interesting personalities (similar to AEPhi) and are all crazy involved on campus.

It seems like someone (OP) has a deep routed bitterness towards DG. Are you insecure about your sorority or did you get dropped by DG? Regardless, we all know every single sorority cares about their ranking and rush stats and improving or maintaining their reputation. SO, lets stop pretending like we don't.

I think no one has truly brought to the surface the boring, generic side of DG until now since it's never been so apparent until now. Yes, they have some amazing and nice sisters. BUT they have a lot more girls who really care about image and rep and go for the sweetheart appeal but end up just being average girls trying too hard at everything.

I disagree. DG wasn't for me, but I have a lot of friends in it as far as I can tell they genuinely don't care that much about their "image". Sure, a lot of them are overachievers, but I don't think they do it for superficial reasons.

LOL. It's funny how people all of a sudden start to talk negatively about DG now that recruitment is around the corner and they feel that DG might continue to improve this year. I hope for WashU's sake, PNMs can see through it and keep an open mind. Every sorority has their own uniqueness and PNMs need to go where they feel best fits them.

It makes so much more sense to talk about how DG cares about rep in regards to how they recruit. I forget where but someone made a post recently that paired sororities by how they look at recruitment and it just made SO much sense.

DG can be grouped with AEPhi, ChiO, and AOPi in that they recruit by personality and want their reps to be in line with their personality. So DG wants to be the sweetheart overachievers, AEPhi wants to be fun girls with character, ChiO wants to be the hipster chill sorority, and AOPi wants genuine, nice and involved girls. They're not going to take people who they think will make them "top" or "popular" or whatever because they'd rather recruit people who actually fit the character of the chapter.

APhi, Pi Phi, and Kappa want to be known for being "top" and "cool", and that's how they recruit. So they take people who are pretty and who rush well and can give off that "better than you" vibe. But they all lose something the more you get to know them and get worse when you group a bunch of them together. That's also why personality changes so much between pledge classes and why things get catty and dramatic when different personalities who all have that elitist thing going for them clash.

And that's not to say some of each group don't end up in the other, but that really doesn't happen all that often and happens when people slip through the cracks.

And no one knows what KD's deal is yet since they screwed up their only recruitment so far.
