yeah thats accurate, esp with regards to traditional ranking standards. probably worth noting, as always (for the sake of incoming PNMs reading this), that these standards are less relevant than in bigger greek communities. Not that greek life here isn't legitimate or fun, its just that the difference between sororities here is more marginal whereas ranking of greek communities with defined tiers carries more weight.

This was posted on the older discussion page and even though I don't agree with all of the ranks I think it's a much better/more accurate way of comparing chapters:
By looks: Kappa, Pi Phi, APhi, DG, AEPhi, ChiO, KD, AOII
By social: Pi Phi, APhi, Kappa, AEPhi, DG, ChiO, AOII, KD
By personality (indiv. members): AEPhi, DG, ChiO, AOII, APhi, Pi Phi, Kappa, KD
By involvement (as a chapter): DG, Kappa, AEPhi, ChiO, KD, Pi Phi, APhi, AOII
By sisterhood: AEPhi, DG, ChiO, AOII, Pi Phi, Kappa, APhi, KD

this seems more accurate than any other ranking i've seen on this site. only thing i would change is switch dg and kappa for rush stats... a lot of kappa's pc wanted bids from other sororities and they took the smallest class.

I think recruitment this year has the potential to really rock the tier system (yes, I know the "best" chapters aren't necessarily the top tier ones, but tiers do have so validity when it comes to looks, rep, and recruiting power).
Pi Phi will probably stay on top because there will always be girls who love partying and the "hot" persona.
Alpha Phi will either do amazing or crash and burn, depending on whether PNMs buy into their facade this year. Based on how annoyed everyone is with them, though, I'm betting on the crash and burn.
Kappa pretty much has this last shot at keeping any kind of status on campus, otherwise they'll just be pretty girls who are sub-par in every other way.
DG, based on the last two years, has the potential to out-recruit most other chapters but will refuse to do so on looks/social life like Pi Phi/APhi/Kappa do, so whether they can be considered top tier is unclear.

LOL nothing is going to "rock the tier system". Every year someone tries to pretend that someone will change things, whether that's DG or AEPhi or even KD. But it's still the same and it always will be.

not sure about a drastic change but i disagree that tiers have stayed the same or will continue to. four years ago Kappa was the undeniable top chapter with Pi Phi as a close second and Alpha Phi a big step down, DG/ChiO were equally middle tier, and AEPhi was on bottom with AOPi. now it's more Pi Phi/Alpha Phi, Kappa/DG, AEPhi/ChiO, and AOPi/KD. i think what's changed is that more people have started to see through how fake some of the old "top" chapters are, and most PNMs who want more than a shallow rep are choosing to go middle tier. this year AEPhi took girls Pi Phi wanted, and Kappa/Pi Phi ended up with a lot of girls who were cut by DG.

AEPhi will either cement their reputation as a good but sloppy party chapter or fade back into solid middle tier - depends on how well they can get it together.
ChiO's place will depend a lot on how well DG/AEPhi do and how well they can steal girls from those chapters. Mostly competing with AEPhi in the tier system but with DG for the type of girls they want.
AOPi (barring getting screwed over by a certain chapter again) is in a position to do better than KD if they can sell their personality and sisterhood to PNMs/do a serious PR push in the fall.
KD will, let's be honest, probably come out on bottom now that the hotter, more social girls are graduated or about to, but no one really holds it against them since they're so new.

it all depends on how you define tiers. alpha phi, pi phi, and kappa will always argue that they're still top tier because they get the most attractive/social girls overall - and by this metric, that's true, because they're the ones that recruit by attractiveness/social life. but at literally any other university tiers are defined by recruiting power and campus rep, which changes things a lot. even disregarding reputation (because that varies a lot based on who you ask/what you look for in a sorority), here's how well chapters have done in rush the last 3 years. you'll notice it's starting to look VERY different than what the alpha phi/pi phi/kappa like to advertise:
2012: kappa, pi phi, alpha phi, aephi, dg, chio, aopi
2013: pi phi, dg, aephi, kappa, alpha phi, chio, aopi, (kd)
2014: alpha phi, pi phi, dg, kappa, aephi, chio, kd, aopi
averaged out (with more weight on recent years since that's what matters more) it looks something like this:
pi phi
alpha phi/dg
kappa/aephi
chio
aopi/kd

by the way, this is not meant to be a dig at alpha phi, pi phi, kappa, or anyone else. each chapter values different things, and that's completely valid (though i certainly don't agree with all of them). the key as a pnm is to find the chapter whose values and character align with what you want yours to be.

While I agree overall with the argument, this was definitely written by an AEPhi... Even taking stats from 2013 into account they're still a big step below Kappa.

Agree except I feel like AEPhi should still be ranked below Kappa by rush statistics. They're good but they're not THAT good.

Agreed. The above ranking is pretty spot-on in terms of the tier system (looks, rep, etc.) but especially at a school like WashU that is NOT necessarily indicative of which chapters are the "best" or whose members are the happiest. The only time tiers actually matter are during recruitment, and even then they only really matter to girls who are rushing for reputation.
