Thoughts on the DG post?

by: Survivor

I’m horrified. I’m disgusted. I’m beyond angry. While I don’t think this really has anything to do with sororities as a whole, we need to hold DG accountable as a community and show that this disregard for survivors will not be tolerated in panhel. They need to kick this member out immediately. How can we do that?

Well they only have like 10 members so there's not many options...unless this person was someone who dropped in the fall and isn't in the chapter anymore

It sounds like they’re still in the chapter. If that’s true, then they need to kick this person out.

people still call people their big even if everyone dropped bc those relationships don't really disappear so im not positive theyre definitely still in the chapter or not... but since dg had like 3 ppl the odds are that they are not in the chapter anymore

all parties involved in the post are not in DG anymore and were not involved with the chapter when the incident occurred

honest question: if both the survivor and perpetrator's girlfriend had resigned before anything happened, what could dg possibly do? i saw they posted a statement and people are saying they should disband but if they weren't members at the time how would dg have known and been able to do something about it? how would disbanding help the survivor if, aside from meeting through the chapter, they could not have been involved in addressing the situation at the time?

were there other organizations these members were in at the time? what did they do? i get that they met through greek life but since they were not members what could greek life to do as a whole to address it?

It’s also so funny to me that they’re harassing DG for being “rich and white“ when the two heads of exec are BIPOC.

What does a girl getting assaulted by another girl’s boyfriend have to do with Greek Life? Nothing!!! This could happen to anyone, anywhere, at any age regardless of anyone’s Greek affiliation. This stuff even happened in high school.

A girl in my boyfriend’s dorm got in to bed with him when he was drunk and he thought it was me. None of that had to do with Greek life. Just stupid drunkenness and bad choices. Want to stop making bad choices? Stop over-drinking and take some responsibility for yourself.

I don't disagree that this specific incident had nothing to do with Greek life, barring the two women's former affiliations, but you should never blame someone for being assaulted. Never ever. It was his fault that he saw a drunk woman and took advantage of the situation, not her fault for being vulnerable.

We had a rule in our chapter where if you were uncomfortable with a person on campus and did not want to see them at invited events, you could privately come to our Honor Board and confidentially explain (if you were able to) who the person was and why you can't be around them and they were supportive and banned the person from events. End of story.

Do other organizations have rules like that? I have a hard time believing that the assaulter/girlfriend are not in other organizations on campus that don't want to be represented by two people who are this morally inept.

I think you are missing the poster’s point. Assault stories are, more often then not, between two impaired people. You rarely hear about the sober girl or guy going to a party and getting in to trouble. We have to make a conscientious choice to take care of ourselves.

Also, since nobody was named, I’m suspicious that the post could be fake. Some of the exact same stories are showing up at other universities and they all blame Greeks. How do we know the post is really about WashU?
