washu brought the police in
by: first yearok so I think the real issue here is the university's involvement and the process they took quietly. Meanwhile, the blame alludes to the chapters and their hypocrisy in calling in the police after having condemned the police over the summer; however, what is not being told is that it was the university, not the chapters, that brought the police and literally had them go to this student's residence. My friend told me that the sororities had no idea the police even went to the student's residence and that they were never informed that the university ever brought in the police in the first place. I would like to hope that if someone reports a death threat, it is because they feel genuinely unsafe. And if you think reporting it was some sort of political move, then I think you are instead creating harm by discrediting someone's genuine fear for their safety. We will never know what this person is going through, and that alone is why we should never make assumptions. I think the big takeaway from this whole saga is that there needs to be better alternatives (and if there are, then WashU needs to do a better job of getting that word out) or more transparency about the reporting process because the fact that chapters were never told that WashU brought the police in or that they would if it ever happens is problematic.
