likelihood of bid as a sophomore

by: Sophomore

I'm doing recruitment next week as a sophomore, but my understanding is that sororities prefer first years... what's my likelihood of getting a bid? Does anyone have any more info on how rushing as a sophomore affects my chances, especially if I'm not close with anyone in a sorority? Thanks!

I rushed as a sophomore and didn't know anyone. It worked out totally fine and I love my sorority! Having been on recruitment from the other end, no one really cares if you are a sophomore or not, it is mostly about fit. Lot's of people told me there is a quota for sophomores, which is totally not true. Pledge classes have less sophomores simply because far less rush. I think the hardest thing about being a sophomore is that you tend to know more about the individual chapters than freshman so it is harder to have an open mind. Don't stress too much and try to give every chapter an equal chance!

You're very likely to get a bid somewhere (never 100% for anyone clearly, but being a sophomore does not hurt those chances). Only place I've seen sophomores have a disadvantage is if they have for some reason been blacklisted from a chapter/chapters. Tbh you have to do something pretty serious for that to happen, so I'm sure you'll be fine. but also talk to your recruitment counselor for advice, this website isn't always the most accurate lol
