I am writing to advise the full membership of Alpha Epsilon Pi that the University is temporarily suspending its recognition of the Sigma Chapter pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into reports received regarding chapter activities.
It has been alleged that multiple individuals required medical attention after attending events and consuming alcoholic beverages at the Alpha Epsilon Pi House between February 17 and February 23, 2018. These events were registered as “mixers” which, by University policy, should not include alcohol. The Washington University Police Department will be leading the investigation into this matter, and their investigation will begin immediately. Your full cooperation with the investigation is expected. Should you have any information you believe is relevant to the investigation, we would encourage you to contact the Washington University Police Department as soon as possible. You can do this by calling 935-5555 or via the silent witness program. You can find the link for the silent witness program at the bottom of the page: police.wustl.edu.
Temporary suspension of recognition means the chapter is not in good standing with the University and is not considered a recognized fraternity on campus. During this time, the chapter is prohibited from engaging in any chapter, Fraternity or University sponsored activities as a representative of Alpha Epsilon Pi. This includes, but is not limited to, social events, philanthropy/community service activities, new member activities, intramural, chapter meetings and recruitment activities. Those students living as residents in the fraternity house will be allowed to remain during this time period; however, card access to members who are not residents will be revoked as part of the terms of temporary suspension.
