by: curious froshWhat is the difference between a top tier and bottom tier fraternity? What makes AEPI and Sig Chi better than TKE and Sig Ep? At the end of the day, if I pick a middle or bottom tier fraternity, how will my life be any worse than if I pick a top tier fraternity, especially if I happen to like the guys in the lower ranked fraternity more?

as a sophomore girl I can tell you almost all of my friends prefer going to middle and bottom tier frats!! they feel safer, more welcoming, better booze, and more inclusive. Some of the guys in top frats just have that douchey personality that other guys seem to like.

for frats, honestly, I don't think this rank stuff matters that much at all except for maybe the very lowest ones (mostly tke, also sig ep and zbt, maybe theta xi). those guys tend to have a reputation with girls as being kinda weird/socially awkward. girls in my chapter have little to no interest in mixing with them, so we rarely (if ever) do. alpha delt is always ranked low here but there are a lot of girls in my chapter and others who just love them, so idk why they're consistently on the very bottom.
honestly, to me, the rest of them are pretty much the same in terms of "status". there are certain obvious personality differences (like guys in ksig are chill stoners, beta guys tend to be more artsy and nice, phi delt has the athletes). but for example, I don't think the guys in aepi are any cooler, funnier, or more attractive on average than the guys in snu. that kinda goes for all the top/middle ones, except maybe sae, which isn't very highly-favored with the girls lately bc they're had some creepy incidents. the rest throw equally good parties. I don't see how being in a "top frat" over a middle one would negatively impact your social life at all.
